Meet Design Team member Susan Lui!

Susan Lui

Hello! My name is Susan Lui and I’m from Singapore. I started scrapping a few years ago and fell in love with this meaningful hobby because it allowed me to record and preserve memories for my family in a manner that appealed to the creative side of me. The combination of beautiful papers, capturing memories and creating art was just the creative outlet I was looking for.

I have a fondness for shabby-chic designs and love layering my layouts and sprinkling them with little details. I like to incorporate flowers and lace in my layouts for a vintage shabby look and Graphic 45 papers are just perfect for this style. Often times my layouts end up very three-dimensional because of all the layering and embellishments I use. I have a problem fitting them into albums but that doesn’t bother me much. My layouts aren’t all shabby-chic. Depending on my mood, the photographs and the paper, I do clean, flat layouts sometimes. I also enjoy a good challenge and experimenting with different scrapbooking styles and trying out new techniques on my layouts and altered art pieces.

I am currently on the design teams for Purple Onion Designs, My Scrapbook Nook and The Paper Element and am absolutely loving designing for Graphic 45.

the spotlight is on for Myra Bierria!

Pic 4 bio

I have been scrapbooking and paper crafting since 2004 and I love learning new techniques and sharing the things I create with my family and friends. I use my precious vacation time to travel to scrapbooking conventions and educational events and I also teach and design for my local scrapbook store, Scrap Chic Boutique, in Decatur, Georgia. My sister sparked my interest in scrapbooking in 2004 when she made an album for me. I decided to try one and have been hooked ever since. I recently expanded beyond just scrapbooking and have gotten into artist trading cards mostly and some greetings cards as well. I was never really into vintage stuff until I came across Graphic 45 paper. I fell in love and have been chasing Graphic 45 paper around town ever since. Luckily my local scrapbook store will now stock it and I have been buying it as fast they can get it on their shelves! I am honored to be a featured artist for Graphic 45. The Graphic 45 community is filled with the most talented artists and I'm happy to be a part of it. The spotlight is on for Dawn Hueser!

Dawn-204-web

Hi! I’m Dawn Hueser! I make my home in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Canada with my partner, our 5 children from 23 – 6, three furry four footed babies, and my parents.

I’ve been scrapping for the past twelve years and have loved every minute of it. It truly is my creative outlet and wayyyyyyyyyyy cheaper them a psychologist. Not to mention a great reason to hang with the Bad Girls on Friday nights and travel across Canada and the US to conventions.

While layouts are my passion, I still love card making and altered objects as well.  Whether it is something old and modified or new and exciting I love trying out new techniques. The vast majority of my creations contain lots of texture and details. I love all things vintage, shabby chic.  Graphic 45 is a wonderful addition to my scrappy world.  When I’m not in my scraproom I can be found scrapping Friday nights at my LSS with my Bad Girls.

Aside from scrapping I love to cook meals for my family, doing agility with my dog. You can also find me behind the camera and when possible I actually like to be the subject as well.  Rumor has it that I should be doing housework now and then, but rumors are way over rated, LOL.

Thank you Graphic 45 for this honour. I am looking forward the new lines hitting my local LSS and the amazing projects that come from them.

"JOY" by Susan Lui

I created this layout from Patti's wonderful sketch, using a selection of papers from Graphic 45's first collection. I used papers from Times Nouveau, Botanicabella as well as Playtimes Past. I love how Graphic 45 papers from different lines work together so beautifully.

For my circle, I decided to go with a scalloped edge circle, which I then layered a circle over, inking and distressing all my edges. I decided to place my title flushed to the side of the backing paper because I felt that balanced off the circle layout better. I stamped a Purple Onion ornate frame onto Graphic 45 paper which matched the matt of my photo, then mounted that on 3D foam dots for more dimension. My interpretation of sketches usually turns out quite differently from the original and this one was no different. Instead of the corner flourishes in the original sketch I substituted them with torn edges in my background paper, which complemented my distressed and inked edges. I finished off the layout with some beautiful Prima lace and new flowers.

Tape transfer technique

there are a variety of ways to create special effects on you photos. You can do it digitally and you can experiment manually. Here, i share a widely used technique used by many mixed media scrappers. i used clear tape to create funk on my image. Have fun, experiment and be not afraid to try it out !

brief Steps :
1. Print black and white copy of photograph (here, i used non-photo paper)
2. Appy a strip of clear packing tape over image.
3. Burnish tape to the image by pressing with fingers. Rub tap in different directions..
4. Immerse taped image into water. Leave it in the water for a few minutes until the paper is saturated.
5. Roll paper from tape and gently rub off till you can see through the tape.
6. The image "sticks" onto the tape.

Hi, I’m Heather.  For much of my life you could find my dancing at the ‘Happiest Place on Earth’, Disneyland portraying many of the Disney princess’  in their shows and parades. I am living ‘Happily Ever After’  with my own prince charming, David, along with our 4 love able fur balls. I love journaling and crafting about the Blessings of life and look forward to my newest role as mom- as David and I are expecting our first child early next year.

More Domestic Goddess

Domestic Goddess Recipe Book
By, Christie Bryant

The first time I laid eyes on the new Graphic 45 Line, Domestic Goddess, I knew that I had to make a recipe book.

The beautiful Domestic Goddess prints made me think of my Grandmother's table cloth and the sweet smells that would waft from her kitchen.

I want to make sure that my children always have a copy of our precious family recipes...from Sugar Cookies and Pie Crust to Thanksgiving Sweet Potatoes.

The Domestic Goddess paper inspired a creative way to preserve my family's treasured recipes.  I hope that you feel inspired too!

The spotlight is on for Soraya Hamming!

FotoSoraya

Hi everybody,
my name is Soraya Hamming and I live in a village between The Hague and Amsterdam in The Netherlands near the beach together with my husband Peter and my cat Flippo.
I work as a software manager for the local government and besides that also as a freelance Software programmer and administrator.
Usually when I’m not working you can find me in my scraproom (I confiscated the whole attic…lol). I love being creative, it helps me to clear my mind.
I discovered scrapbooking 3 years ago when I wanted to make an album for my in-laws who were married for 50 years at the time.
A friend introduced me to the world of scrapbooking… and what a world it is.
After finishing the album I started making mini albums and lay-outs, started to experiment with different techniques, and began altering items.
I’ve learned so much… and still there is so much to learn.
Soon I discovered vintage looks and when I saw Graphic 45 for the first time I was totally blown away…in love… I had to have this paper and since that time Graphic 45 is … “My Precious”…

Therefore I’m honoured to be featured here on the Graphic 45 blog.
And I can’t wait to lay my hands on the new collections.

Please have a peek at my latest work on my blog http://madebysoraya.blogspot.com
Or check out my website and look at all the creations I made so far www.madebysoraya.nl

Thank you… and remember: Trust your crazy ideas!
