Candy Rosenberg shares her "mini me" for CHA Summer 2010 show

It has become a quasi tradition for Candy to create a mannequin/dress form for each show.  It all started with one, so why not continue.  If you read the latest issue of "Somerset Home" from Stampington & Company you will see what drives her to create these one of a kind, labor intensive masterpieces.

This years mannequin is a 14" paper mache form covered in "Steampunk Debutante" and is a facsimile of Candy's steampunk outfit for the show, hence the name of "mini me."  This was a true labor of love as Candy is a huge steampunk fan and this paper was a dream come true for sure.

Today is "Jenny" Day! A Beautiful project and a fun tutorial!

First, I want to show off one of Jenny Svensson's CHA projects.  Her fabulous Steampunk Hot Air Balloon is simply amazing.  Due to time and shipping constraints we were unable to have this at the show, but want to be sure to show it to the world.  It is jaw dropping...

Now for a great tutorial from Jenny..

Layout Vid åkanten (By the riverside) + tutorial

 Riverside

Riverside2

Supplies:

Graphic 45 – Times Nouveau “Wallflower”, “Hey You”, “Sitting Pretty” and Diecut Tags; A Proper Gentleman “Sporting Aristocrat”

Tattered Angels – Glimmer Mist “Sea Glass” and “Olive Vine”

Prima – Flowers

Pink Paislee – “Expressions” Chipboard alphabet

Ranger – Distress Crackle Paint Rock Candy

Bazzill – Just the edge “Hillary”

On this layout, I wanted to pick up the greens and the teals from the photo, so I mixed papers from A Proper Gentleman with the Times Nouveau Collection. That is one of the many good things with Graphic 45 papers, that the different collections match each other very well. I also made my own flower vines from dictionary papers, and used tons of Glimmer Mist to get the right colors for the layout.

Tutorial for the dictionary flower vines:

Vine tut 1

To make these vines you need dictionary pages, Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist (I used the colors Sea Glass and Olive Vine for this project), thin metal wire, and wire cutters.

Vine tut 2

First, you need to cut out circles and leaves from your dictionary pages. I used a scalloped circle punch, 1” diameter for the circles, and I cut my leaves free hand. Then, spray leaves and circles with glimmer mist, and make sure both sides are completely covered. Let them dry.

Vine tut 3

Fold the circles twice, according to the photo. Put one folded circle inside the other one, so that you have double layers in your flower

Vine tut 4

Take a piece of wire and coil it around the folded circles, and then gently ruffle up the flower a little.

Vine tut 5

Crumble one end of the leaf very gently and coil some wire around it. The leaves tear very easily, so make sure you have a few extras to work with just in case.

Vine tut 6

Add more flowers and leaves until you are happy with the size and length of your vine.

What a great tutorial, Jenny.  Thank you for sharing.

Happy Crafting,
Candy

A little bit of sunshine with Tracey!

“My Sunshine” Layout

I had an idea to create a layout that “floated.”  I hand cut out a frame from the “On the Boardwalk” line, and hand cut an “interior block” of patterned paper from the same line.  The only thing is that there was about a 1” negative space between the outer frame and the inner block.  So, I backed the layout with basic transparency sheets to hold the whole layout together.  Since I used easy to get 8 ½” x 11” transparency sheets, I had to use 2 sheets for this 12” x 12” layout.  The 2 sheets came together on the right side of the layout, so the bottom “connection point” was covered with the large yellow flower embellishment.  To cover the top connection point, I “floated” three Graphic 45 embellies on the transparency (using 3D foam adhesive).  Add some Prima flowers (sprayed with Glimmer Mist), some woven jute, and the clock accent by Tim Holtz and this is one easy and fun layout!

We love CHA, it gives us a chance to meet incredibly wonderful people, put faces with names and give hugs to new and old friends.  Then there are the "Stalkers" of the booth...you know who you are!  We love you too and look forward to seeing everyone!

We also have some exciting news.....be sure to stop by the booth for photo ops with the entire Graphic45 team as they will be dressed in STEAMPUNK style!  Corsets, top hats and lots of gears and accessories!

If you are unable to attend, we will be sharing pics and videos as they become available during CHA, plus our design team will be spotlighted during the show.

After visiting the Graphic45 booth, you might want to visit Punky Sprouts booth, they won honorable mention at the CHA Winter Show and recently sponsored our design team.  I wanted to share an album that I got to make for the punky sprouts booth with the new Hallowe'en in Wonderland paper collection!

Tracey shows us a ballet birthday invitation and layout

“Ballet Birthday Invitation and Layout”

I created these sweet, handmade birthday invitations for my daughter’s ballet birthday party.  The photo on the front of the card was taken during one of my daughter’s recent ballet classes.  (Anna is the one with the white shoes.)  I printed the invite photo on white cardstock to help give the photo, and invitation, a vintage look.  All of the party information is on the back of the invitation.

   TraceyLocher_July2010_Birthday Layout2

The invitations turned out so cute that I wanted to include it on a layout about Anna’s birthday.

1.)  I chose three of my favorite photos from the birthday party and printed them as a photo strip for the bottom of the layout.
2.)  I backed the photo strip with a music sheet and distressed the edges.
3.)  The majority of the layout is the card, which I attached to the layout with two Hinge Clips by Tim Holtz.  Add a large sheet of patterned paper to ground your invitation, add a single flower and a few pieces of a rhinestone embellishment, distress and ink.
4.)  Then add another strip of the music sheet to the top of the layout and you are almost done.
5.)  I added a few alpha accents (you could use chipboard or sticker alphas) and the layout was complete.

This is a quick layout that incorporates a special invitation, your birthday memories, and all the details of the party!

Laura de la Rosa alters a mentos box.

Laura shows us how to alter a mentos box.

Wow this was a fun yet interesting recycled project to make! I used a Mentos candy box and Zutter Bind-it-all materials to achieve this look. This is a special mini that you can definitely carry in your purse!!!! It has sevaral pages of wonderful pics and handmade mini paper roses and tons of Bling!

Tips/Techniques

In order to reuse a candy box it must be clean and sprayed with Archival Mist { if you choose} to remove all acid from box. There is a specific way to cut the box in order to keep its original closing mechanism. I would practice cutting and punching on several boxes before starting your project. My advise to you is that when you find the perfect spot for punching mark it on your binding machine with a pencil for further use {like the rest of your project}! Once you have this down pat you can go crazy altering candy boxes, I know I will.

I am so happy the cat's out of the bag....

Now we can get to creating!

What will I do now that I don't have to sneak around the office, the packing room and the warehouse anymore.  Oh yeah, how about make something with this beautiful paper!  The design team is feverishly working on beautiful projects and layouts to share at CHA and I am working on my "TOP SECRET" project and lots of goodies to share using the new collections.  Let's just say my scissors need a bit of sharpening, I just about dulled them in 3 days!

So now that we have revealed all the collections, lets here what you think about them.  Comment on this post and a winner will be chosen and announced on August 5th to win some of this yummy paper!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now back to our regular scheduled program:

My local scrapbook store, "Krop, Paper, Scissors" recently had a very unique contest.  Karyn offered a kit that included a small paper album and "On The Boardwalk" 8 x 8 paper, a 7Gypsies bag and a piece of chipboard and asked that they create a mini album using only Graphic45 products.  I was honored to be asked to judge the entries, and it was so much fun to see all the cool ways these ladies made their albums, however, one really stuck out and was clearly the winner.

Congratulations to Roberta Burch!  What a beautiful and creative album you made.
