Well, lets just say that Candy went a little "steampunk" on this one...her name is "Steamie" and here is a sneak peek:

Jenny shows us how to make some pretty flowers....September Tutorial

Tutorial – Crumpled Flowers

by Jenny Svennson

I’m going to show you how to make these really cute flowers out of patterned papers. I got the idea from a colleague of mine, who made big flowers from tissue paper, which she rolled onto a pencil and then crumpled it to shape the petals. I’ve been thinking about this for a while, and I thought I’d give it a try with patterned paper too, and see if I somehow could adapt this technique to scrapbooking. And it worked perfectly.

Jenny_september_tutorial1

To make these flowers, you need the following things: Patterned paper, cut into petal shapes, a piece of twine, a cardstock circle, a button and a knitting needle or something similar for rolling up your petal when you crumple it. You also need to soak your petals in water, using a mister or why not a bottle of Glimmer Mist, to add some sparkle too while you are at it.

Jenny_september_tutorial2

So, take the wet petals and roll them onto the knitting needle.

Jenny_september_tutorial3

Then you press them together to create the crumples. You can be pretty firm with this, because the Graphic 45 paper is very durable, even while wet.

Jenny_september_tutorial4

Take the petals off the needle, roll them up, shape them a little and then leave them to dry.

Jenny_september_tutorial5
Glue the petals onto a cardstock circle. I have used eight petals for this flower, but it all depends on the size and shape of the petals and what kind of flower you want to make, or how full you want it to be.

Jenny_september_tutorial6

Add the button with the twine, and voila, there you have your flower.

I have made plenty of these flowers since I learned this technique. They are quick and easy to make, and they are great to use on layouts and cards. Here, I have used the flower in the tutorial for one card, and another one, with rounder petals, for another card. All of the patterned papers are from the Steampunk Debutante collection.Jenny_september_tutorial7

These are so fun, I cant wait to make some myself.  Thank you Jenny for sharing.

Keep an eye out on the blog for our monthly tutorials from our design team!  Also keep an eye out for our October Trick or Treat Bags.  I sent paper bags from Pennsylvania Bag Company to our design team and asked them to make trick or treat bags.  They got right on it and it will be fun to share with you next month!

Cruising with Tracey and her Punky Sprouts Album

“My Favorite Things About Cruising” – mini album (Punky Sprouts)

G45 - Cruising - cover small

My favorite thing about creating a mini album is putting the rings on so you finally get to see all of the individual pages come together in one cohesive book.  This is especially so with a wild and crazy album like this Punky Sprouts album.  It came with two sets of gate pages, two acrylic pages, two burlap pages and the final back chipboard page.  So many pages to open this way, see through that way… and when it all came together, VOILA!  My biggest piece of advice before tackling an album like this is not to be afraid!  Punky Sprouts has some of the cutest and most creative albums out there and you just have to jump in and play with them!  I had never created with a burlap page before, but with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist and chipboard to back the photos and help them stand rigid, the pages were designed and done before I knew it!

Another design tip you will see in this album is consistency and simplicity.  I know, I know… there is a lot going on in the book, but because of that, I kept base elements consistent.  Each photo is matted with the same chocolate color cardstock and the photos were all treated the same way. (sanded edges, inked, and chocolate cardstock that was scissor distressed)  There is almost no journaling in this album as I let the page titles and the photos do the talking.  Each time you turn a page, there is another example of things I love about cruising… exploring history, family, food, private beaches, pillow chocolates and towel animals, and awesome tours.  Embellishments were also kept to a minimum so that the photos could tell the story.

Lets Share Miss Christie's Creative Space

Design team member, Christie Bryant, is the queen of foo foo!  We love her feminine style and it always puts a nice twist on the deep colors that Graphic45 is known for.  So lets see where she creates:

My creative space is filled with natural light - I love my big picture windows.  I have to admit that I took these photos several months ago and have added a few things since this photo was taken.

Christie.CreativeSpace

What?  Scrapbookers actually buy more supplies?  No way!  It's true, I have purchased plenty more and also the new shelves to hold it.  Has a scrapbookers anonymous group formed yet?

I love to display my embellishments where I can see them easily. I use jars, bowls, serving dishes...anything goes!

My favorite is the button jar.

Flowers, rhinestones, all sorts of goodies - I like to have them at my fingertips.

I love to have an organized creative space but it rarely ever stays that way.  My table usually looks like this:

Wow, Christie.  What a beautiful space.  I have one question for you...do you run your fingers through your button jar like I do?  It is very meditative. lol

Thank you for sharing,

Candy

We asked Steff to tell us a little about herself, this is what she had to say.

About me:
Stephanie Miller (With A Grin)

"I'm a Wife/Mother/Me! All at once... I am all three of these! And I love it!"

Here's my "How I Got Started In Scrapbooking" (short) story:
It started with a computer hard drive crash! Not mine, thankfully, but it made me madly rush home and tell my husband I NEEDED A "FULL PROOF" BACK-UP to my regular back-up!" Yep, He looked at me with that 'what are you talking about' look and said the one thing that pushed me right into this exciting world of scrapbooking. He said, "Steff, WHY!? Seriously, you don't even SEE these pictures after you take them!" HOLY SMOKES.. He was right! I had taken hundreds (shh.. thousands) of photos and they just sat on a hard drive. I had always said I'd print out the 'best ones' and put them in an album. But ok, honestly, it sounded like a chore to me! I was supposed to grab one of those standard boring albums and spend hours filling them up with pictures and maybe if I had enough coffee in me I'd put in names and dates in that little spot they give you! It made me think.. If I DIDN'T WANT to spend the time putting the pictures in a traditional photo album.. WHO would want to PICK IT UP AND LOOK through it?" So, that's how I got started! Long story short.. I was determined to SHARE/SHOW my photos and make the PROCESS FUN! I went to the scrapbook store and was amazed at all the scrappy happiness that would 'enhance' my photo's! I LOVED IT! I BOUGHT IT! I went home with it! And then I MADE MY FIRST MINI album! I wanted to create an album that would attract a person's eye. I wanted to make them WANT to PICK IT UP and look at it!! And in all this scrappy fun, I found my scrappy passion.. creating with gorgeous papers, prints, embellishments, etc.!! I love creating and have discovered there is no right or wrong way to scrapbooking .. just enjoy the process! Gather your scrappy happiness (gorgeous products) and get busy!

So thats how I got hooked, I LOVE THE PROCESS from beginning to end! And BONUS: Now I CAN'T WAIT to print out those special photos and get scrappy busy! I know.. YOU KNOW exactly what I'm talking about! :) Thanks for reading and I'd love to hear what pushed you into your scrappy passion!
