And now get ready for even more inspiration as Tara Orr brings you this amazing altered tea box that contains stunning Steampunk Debutante coasters! It's so beautiful and clever! Plus there's even a great tutorial by Tara that shows you how to create some beautiful multi-dimensional roses with the Graphic 45 Metal Flower Staples! It's all so beautiful and fun! Take it away, Tara!

"I really wanted to do something a bit out of my shabby chic comfort zone - something a little more grungy/masculine.  I had purchased a wooden tea box from my local thrift store (ahhh the thrift store again!) and knew I wanted to alter it with something metal!  The Steampunk Debutante papers were perfect as were the metal doorplates, hinges and buttons from Graphic 45's Metal Staples collection.  I couldn't resist adding some flowers to the project but felt they looked out of place with so much metal. Solution - create shabby chic roses from the metal flowers!" -Tara Orr

"The Metal Flowers from Graphic 45's Staples collection are wonderful to work with.  While some people prefer to use them 'as is' (more of a 2D bloom), I prefer my flowers to have a little more meat on the bones! I decided to layer several flowers together and discovered that they were quite easy to transform into more dimensional roses. Below I have included a step by step tutorial for you to make your own metal flowers." -Tara Orr

Step 1: To make your shabby, metal roses you will need Tacky Glue, needlenose pliers, acrylic paint (optional) and Graphic 45 Metal Flowers

Flower1

Step 2: Each rose requires 3 Graphic 45 metal flowers

Flower2

Step 3: Begin by taking one of the petals and bending it tightly

Flower3

Step 4: Bend your petal upwards towards the centre of your flower

Step 5: Take another petal, opposite the one you just bent and bend it in the same way

Flower5

Step 6: Continue bending each of your flower petals - each slightly less than the other so that they fit snugly around one another

Flower6

Step 7: Almost done! Notice how each petal is wrapped around the other?

Flower7

Step 8: Once each of the petals have been bend and folded upwards, use your pliers to squish the flower tightly together

Flower8

Step 9: To finish, take the outermost tips of each petal and bend each slightly downwards.  You have now completed the centre of your rose

Flower9

Step 10: Take another flower and bend each of the petals just slightly

Flower10

Step 11: Apply a generous amount of tacky glue to the centre of your flower

Flower11

Step 12: Next, place your centre flower on top of your 2nd flower layer.

Flower12

Step 13: Begin folding each of the new petals towards the centre of your rose - you can actually do this by hand

Flower13

Step 14: Each petal wraps itself around the other - hugging the centre flower

Flower14

Step 15: All your petals are now folded upwards.  Once again, use your pliers to squish the entire flower together tightly

Flower15

Step 16: Take the outermost tips of your second flower and slightly bend each one downwards as you did to the first flower.  You have now completed the second layer of your rose.  If you like - you can keep your rose like this. A little smaller but it most definitely looks like a rose at this point.

Flower16

Step 17: Continue with the above steps 10 - 16 for your last flower and you will have the completed shabby metal rose.

Flower17

Step 18: Allow the glue to dry completely.  Should you wish to adhere to your projects, a generous amount of tacky glue does the job wonderfully

Flower18

Step 19: As a final step, you may chose to paint the outer tips of your rose a cream colour for that shabby chic look.  Again, this is an optional step if you like the rose the way it is.

This next creation is by Nancy Wethington and we know you're going to love it! She's taken a simple wooden flower box and dressed it all up in Christmas Emporium and Christmas Past! This is a perfect example of how you can take something super simple and turn it into something gorgeous! Here is what Nancy had to say about this wonderful work of altered art!

"I found this portable wood flower box at a local craft store.  It was end of the season and really cheap so it just had to come home with me.   I was going to keep it until next summer until I started thinking about Christmas gifts.  I remembered this little flower box and decided to alter it for Santa's letters and/or Christmas cards.  Christmas Emporium and Christmas Past papers from Graphic 45 mix beautifully together.  Adding the Staples Door Plate made the front of this piece look like a mailbox." -Nancy Wethington

Also, today we are celebrating the birthday of one of our beloved design team members, the fabulous Jane Tregenza. Jane's work is an inspiration to all of us and it is always a pleasure to feature her crafts on our blog. Her love for crafting is obvious in every single gorgeous piece she creates. She has an impeccable artistic vision and warmth that shines through in her work. We appreciate everything that she adds to our Graphic 45 family. Jane is a true artist and a fabulous lady. We wish her a very happy birthday! You're the best, Jane!

Today we're featuring some awesome crafts that Jane has made. The first one was a birthday gift that she made for Diane on her birthday. Since we've got this fun birthday theme going on today we thought it would be nice to show this amazing piece. It's got all the class and sophistication of true Jane Tregenza craft creation!

"When Charee asked me if I would like to make something for Diane’s birthday, I knew exactly what I wanted to make. I love this style of scrapbooking/altered art. It also gave me a  way to use lots of Diane’s wonderful papers and embellishments. Charee was able to send me some photos and I got more from Facebook! The frame size is 50 inches. This means there are about 144 1 ½ x 1x1/2 inch squares needed to make a collage this big. I find that 40 photos and 104 squares works the best. Some squares are bigger and count for 4. It’s a great way to use all those favourite emblements that on a 12x12 layout would just get lost. I love words and quotes, so I have included lots on my project. I hope Diane enjoys it as much as I did making it. Happy Birthday, Diane!" -Jane Tregenza

And here we have a gorgeous layout also by Jane Tregenza! She's even created a fun and inspiring tutorial so you can create one of your very own! There are some great techniques in this tutorial! We know you're going to love it!

"I love using Graphic 45 print papers for my layouts and I love the challenge of using prints from different collections that you would never normally think to put together. This layout is a case in point. The Print paper Magnigique and Woodland Fantasy are two papers that you would not think to match together, but they work perfectly for this layout. I love the strong colors’ of magnitique and woodland fantasy is one of my all time favorite Graphic 45 prints. I love this photo of my daughter Kate taken one day while she was working. I decided to use the terra cotta colors’ in the card stock to bring out her skin tone. This also allowed me to  use all the pretty flowers in strong colors’ from Bohemian Floral ( another favorite) and my trusty pointy scissors for some fussy cutting! I used a butterfly from Imaginarium as a base and added the flowers and leaves to make it the feature on my layout.  I love the simple look to the layout, the strong colors’ from the Graphic 45 papers and the fact that the photo is the focal. I have done a tutorial for anyone wanting to have a go." -Jane Tregenza

Finished page
Supplies:
Graphic 45 print papers – Magnifique, Woodland Fantasy, Hautee Courture, Curtain Call, Sweet Heart of Mine, Time flies, Bohemian Floral.
Cornations Cardstock
5 ¼ x 7 ¼ inches Olive
5 ¾ x 7 ¾ inches Rustic
Color box inks – olive pastel
Imaginarium Designs Chipboard
IDP0005 Just You
IDS0002 Butterfly with cut out wings
TDT0011 Oval Frames
Ribbons
Please note all measurements are in inches:

Instructions:

Step 3

1.       Use the 12 inch x 12 inch (Magnifique) print paper as your base paper. We will be layering all the other papers on top of this one.  If you want to, you can ink around the edges.

2.       Cut your black cardstock back to 10 ½ inches x 10 ½ inches and tape it down to the middle of the base print paper.

3.       Cut your next piece of print paper (woodland fantasy) back to 10 ¼ inches x 10 ¼ inches, ink around the edges and tape to the middle of the black cardstock.

4.       Cut your cream cardstock back to 9 inches x 9 inches. You can ink it with green ink.  Don’t tape this one to your other papers at this stage. We will work on it and tape it down later.

Step 6
5.        Measure up from the bottom of the cream cardstock 1 ½ inches and make a mark on the cardstock. Do this at each end of your page. This will give you a line to place your tape onto your page; you can then add the ribbon to your page.  Wrap the ends of the ribbon to the back of your cream cardstock and tape them down.

6.       Cut a piece of Hautee Courture to 2 ½ inches to 7 ½ inches, ink it and tape it down to your page. To place it correctly measure in from the right side of the cream cardstock ½ inch and measure up from the bottom of the cream cardstock ½ inch.  You should have about 1 inch space at the top.

Step 5
7.       Cut a piece of Curtain Call to 1 inch x 12 inches. To place it correctly, measure in from the right side of the cream cardstock 1 ¼ inches. This means it will be in the middle of your Hautee Couture print paper. Fold it underneath the cream card stock, top and bottom Tape it down.

8.       Cut a piece of Sweet Heart of Mine to 3 inches x 4 inches, ink around the edges. To place it correctly measure in ¼ inch from the right edge of the cream cardstock and measure up 1 ¼ inches from the bottom of the cardstock.

Step 9
9.       You need to ink your title “just you” with green ink. You can embossing this with a stamp with clear embossing powder, to do this you will need to ink your title, dry it with a heat gun. This is important, as this will stop the powder adhering to the whole title. Stamp the title with the stamp of your choice with embossing ink and place into the powder. Blow to remove excess powder and heat with a heat gun. Glue to your page in the bottom right corner.

Step15
10.   Cut out the butterflies from your Time Flies sheet. You will need one large, two medium and two smaller ones from the back of the papers. You can cut some leaves from this sheet as well (you need them to add to the chipboard butterfly. You will need to finish the rest of the page before sticking your cut out butterflies on.

11.   Cut Flowers and stems out of the Bohemian Floral print paper.

Step12
12.   Put glue only on the back body of your large cream butterfly. This will let you bend the wings up slightly. Glue it you your page as shown in the photo, it will fit over your title. Attach your large flower to the middle of the butterfly with double sided foam tape. Add all the smaller stems/flowers to your butterfly with foam tape. Make sure you tuck all the ends in under your middle flower.

Step13
13.   Use some of your leftover woodland fantasy to back your chipboard oval frame and glue it down as shown in the photo.

14.   Add four black photo corners to your cream square and tape it down to the base papers. Make sure it is in the middle of the green print paper.

15.   You can now place your butterflies on to the page wherever you like.

16.   Cut a 7 ¼ x 7 ¼ inch from the olive cardstock. Cut a 7 ¾ x 7 ¾ inch piece from the Rustic card stock and tape them together. Add your photo and tape it to your page to the left of your layout.

You are now finished!

Well, that's all for today! We want to thank Jane Tregenza for her stunning work today and wish her a fabulous birthday! We hope you will all join us tomorrow for more Tropical Travelogue sneak peeks and design team projects! It's going to be another unbeatable day of inspiration! Today we're also featuring some festive Halloween crafts from Nicole Eccles and Gloria Stengel of our design team! Halloween is fast approaching and we thought these great crafts would help inspire some last minute Halloween crafting! There's still time to whip up something marvelously spooky! Check out this amazing Halloween lantern by Nicole Eccles! She's going to shine some light on Halloween inspiration with this amazing work of art! Here's what Nicole had to say about this clever creation.

"This fun Halloween lantern was created using the 5x5 Graphic 45 Altered Art Box!  So simple to create, all you need is the altered art box, colored vellum, a craft knife, clip light, small low watt light bulb, some wonderful Graphic 45 papers, and a little imagination!    ** Clip lights can be found at your local hardware store, created to clip into small openings, great for lanterns, small Christmas houses, and altered art boxes!!! To create the perfect window for the vellum, use a craft knife to cut an opening thru the flap directly under the cover.  Using the opening on the cover as a guide to cut the layer underneath. Before adhering colored vellum between the flap and cover, make sure to cut a hole in the back for a small clip light and low watt light bulb. For the hole in the back, measure the diameter of your clip lamp and draw a circle on the back center of the box.  Cut the circle out using a craft knife.  *This time you are cutting thru 2 layers of chipboard, so be patient! Now colored vellum may be adhered between layers.  Last, glue the top cover shut, and decorate with Graphic 45 papers!   Embellish as inspired!!" -Nicole Eccles

"I enjoy creating unique and fun decorations for the holidays. For this faux screen table decoration, I simply attached thick chipboard to the back of cardstock to create a "screen" to act as my canvas. I cut cardstock to 6x12 inches, scored at 3, 6, and 9 inches. Then I glued chipboard to the back of each of the four panels to make the screen study. Each 3x6 inch panel is  decorated in a Halloween theme." -Gloria Stengel

"I have always enjoyed doing various crafts and only started scrapbooking about 11 years ago when my daughter was in grade school. Back then I used what I would call BLAH paper (it was just that) and a lot of stickers to embellish with. I didn’t know that such beautiful projects could be made from scrapbook paper until I purchased my first paper crafting magazine. I saw a paper bag mini album that was absolutely gorgeous and thought to myself, "I can do that." I started out doing paper bag minis and now I do mini albums out of anything I can find to alter. I got my first glimpse of Graphic 45 about 4 years ago at a scrapbook store that I stumbled on when my husband and I were traveling. The papers caught my eye immediately. I love anything old and vintage. Graphic 45 gives me that. It has become my favorite line of paper to work with. I like to keep my mini albums simple, so most of the time I don‘t use a lot of flowers, bling or embellishments. I think the paper should speak for itself. Once again Graphic 45 that does exactly that.  I enjoy sharing my projects with others and I love to do tutorials for those wanting to know “now just how did you do that?” I believe we all have a creative side and sometimes I think we give up a little too quickly. If you will stay with it, your creativity will come shinning through." -Susie McGuire

"This album was made using Graphic 45's new paper collection "An ABC Primer" and 9 x 6 catalog envelopes. On a scale of 1 to 10 (ten being the greatest) of the most fun mini's I've ever made, this one is a 10+ ! I didn't think I would like this particular paper collection, but since Graphic 45 is my FAVORITE paper line, I decided to buy it anyway. Sooooooo glad I did! This is now my all time favorite album to date. I used some of my left over cork board in this album, I think it incorporated nicely with this theme." -Susie

So let's get to it! Check out this first adorable card creation by Gloria Stengel. This card is great for all occasions but looks particularly fabulous with it's elegant Fall colors. Behold the magic!

Supplies:
Cardstock: Bazzill, Stampin' Up!
Designer paper: Graphic45 The Magic of Oz ( Journey to Oz, Yellow Brick Road)
Ink: Clearsnap Colorbox Chalk Blackbird
Pin: Maya Road
Tools: Grand Calibur Machine by Spellbinders, Die templates by Spellbinders (S5-053 Lace Doily Motifs)
Adhesive: tape by Scotch 3M, glue by Tombow

Next we have this sweet and beautiful layout by Jane Tregenza. This LO is another example of a great Fall/Halloween craft. Jane's classic style looks absolutely flawless in this great LO. Here is what she had to say about the inspiration for this lovely work of art.

"The Magic of Oz Collection is wonderful. It  works so well on all levels, whether it’s layouts or mini projects.  This time I used it for a page on my son. As soon as I saw the Scatterbrained Scarecrow I wanted to use it on a layout. I had some photos of Josh taken when he was 12 years old. He decided to have a veggie garden, so he spent the day digging up a patch of our back yard. By the end of the day he was over it. It took Malcolm one whole Saturday morning to fill it all in. I used a sheet of Yellow Brick Road for the base of my layout mounted on black cardstock. I cut a frame from Domestic Goddess- Happy Homemaker. I added black brads in the middle of each flower on the border  and worked the rest of my page with the frame. I cut the scarecrow images from Scatterbrained Scarecrow and used foam tape to build them up. I cut the pipe frame as well. The round scarecrow piece came from an 8x8 Magic of Oz pad as the image on the 12x12 paper was too large. I added another square in middle of my layout mated with black bazzill and photos. To finish my page I added corners and a title from Imaginarium Designs. The title was inked with a mixture of inks to get the right colour and sprayed with Iridescent spray to give it a shimmer. I even managed to do some journaling as well!" -Jane Tregenza

Here is another amazing Magic of Oz layout by Jane Tregenza. It combines a timeless style with a heartwarming sentiment. It's super inspiring and simply beautiful. Here is what Jane had to say about her stunning LO.

"This year my three daughters had a trip of a life time. Beth has promised Anna a trip overseas for years. Anna found a website that does Harry Potter tours of England and Scotland. She really wanted to do the tour, so Beth offered to take her, Anna asked if Kate wanted to come with them and of course she was delighted! They did England and Scotland for 15 days, spent one day in Paris and four days in USA doing Harry Potter world and some of the theme Parks in Orlando.  They had an amazing time together but I was so glad to see them home. So when it came time to do a layout with a photo taken at the airport before they left, the magic of Oz collection was my first choice. I love this new collection from Graphic 45. It is so versatile and can be used for any occasion. The papers work so well together and the theme of the balloon for travelling was great. The Poppy fields paper is one of my favourites and had to be added.  I cut borders from the wicked print paper and Emerald City. I made a banner, covered them with paper and  put Domestic Goddess alphabets with epoxy dots on top. I used a chipboard clock, which I inked and sprayed with Iridescent spray. I added a cut out compass from the back of the Wicked Print paper. On top of it I put a chipboard compass from Imaginarium Designs and added a chipboard Graphic 45 compass from chipboard tags 1. On top of that is a compass which actually works.  I used it to list some of the places they visited.  I love Poppy fields so I cut lots of the flowers and layered them with foam tape on top of a picket fence. The Emerald city paper gave me the man in the balloon which I cut out and used as a journaling piece. All I needed to add was some chipboard travel words sprayed black to finish my page. Once again Diane and Graphic 45 have come up with another wonderful collection that is perfect for many different projects." -Jane Tregenza
