Let's let her introduce herself:

Sandy Head Shot Graphic 45

"Hi! My name is Sandy Trefger and I love crafting!! I’ve been creating or sewing for as long as I can remember, if you count cutting out paper dolls as a craft! I learned to sew when I was 9 so I could make my own Barbie doll clothes. My Grandmother loved to craft and I spent many summers creating with her—junk trinket boxes, melted crayon candle bottles and sea shells with googly eyes . I’ve always had a passion for photographs and spent many days as a teenager re-doing my parents old photo albums and creating scrapbooks with glue and newspaper clippings of my school sports and adventures. About twenty years ago I discovered “modern scrapbooking” and jumped in with both feet. At first I created the simpler style layouts and advanced to the layouts that used it all. Soon I was making cards and then about 5 years ago I wanted a special album for a Route 66 road trip. After watching several YouTube tutorials, I made my own album out of chipboard and cardstock and started designing my own albums and projects. I love paper crafting and think my “style” is eclectic. I love to use various collections and techniques. I absolutely adore the beautiful Graphic 45 papers and hoard the collections until I know exactly what I want to create. I even keep all the scraps!

I live in the great big state of Texas in the USA and I’m a real Texan. I was born here, have always lived here and will most likely die here. However, I do not own a horse, live on a ranch nor wear cowboy boots and I certainly don’t own any oil rights! But I do love living here and I must have real Tex-Mex for dinner at least once (maybe twice) a week. Along with paper crafting, I also love scrapbooking, card making, photography and quilting! I’ve been married to my best friend and soul mate, Eddie, for 40n years. We have three grown children, five wonderful grandkids and nine loveable cats—three inside and the rest outside of the house plus a few feral kitties that stop by and visit now and then.

I love to share my ideas and techniques with others through my blog, YouTube channel or at a class at the local scrapbook store. I am thrilled to be on the Graphic 45 Design Team for 2016-2017. Happy Crafting ~ Sandy"

Now, Sandy shares three of her projects that are her favorites! You will love each and every one.

"I was inspired by Jim Hankins The Gentleman Crafter’s adorable tea light luminary house to create my Christmas Carol Book Box.  I ordered Jim’s kit from a local scrapbook store and assembled it using the Graphic 45 Christmas Carol 8x8 papers.  Then I designed and created my Book Box from Kraft chipboard and cardstock so that the house would fit inside. The book box is decorated with the 12x12 Christmas Carol papers.  When the house is inside the book box, I tie it closed with green ribbon on the side.  The faux “pages” of the book are gold.  I love sitting this box on my mantel or on the dining room table with the little house sitting on top of the book.  This is one of my favorite Christmas decorative pieces to display. ~Sandy

"I love Halloween and I especially love Halloween “Graphic 45” style!  For the Rare Oddities collection, I created a large book box.  This is no ordinary book box—it holds a Book of Spells! I crafted the book box out of black chipboard and cardstock.  It features a curved spine and a drop down side with a crystal door knob and black elastic closure.  The side drops down to reveal the “real” Book of Spells hidden inside!  This book has lots of pockets and flaps to hide your notes, photos and spell “recipes.”  The front cover features a secret door with something sinister inside.  You can get lost inside this book with all the fabulous details and images found in the Rare Oddities collection.  I decorated this project with chipboard elements from the collection, black crow feathers, eyelash yarn, black lace, ribbon, flowers, fussy cut images and other embellishments.  The Book Box measures 8 ¾” wide x 10”tall x 3”deep and the Book of Spells album found inside measures 7” wide x 8 ¾” tall x 2 ½” deep. This is a fabulous decorative piece for the mantel or coffee table during Halloween. ~ Sandy

"I was inspired by the Tim Holtz Vintage Metal Wheels that really rolled AND the fabulous Graphic 45 Le Cirque papers to create a circus wagon and mini album.  Though the papers were retired and hard to find, I kept looking and was able to purchase enough for this project! The wagon is constructed from chipboard and cardstock and has a functional drop down “gate.”  Inside the wagon is a mini album for amazing circus photos or photos of a crazy family event.  The finished wagon measures 8 ½” long x 10 ½” tall including the flag poles and wheels.  To create the flag poles and the cage bars on one side of the wagon, I used gold and white decorative drinking party straws! So much fun!  The album inside is 7 ¾” long x 5 ½” tall x 3 ¾” thick and has lots of room inside!  It easily slides in and out of the wagon with a brad pull on the spine.  This not only holds your photos but makes a wonderful décor piece for the home or a child’s room. ~Sandy

What a gorgeous album by Sandy! We love her #UniquelyYou Idea!

"When I read the assignment for my first project as a Designer for Graphic 45, I could not decide on which photo of myself that I wanted to use.  Then while looking through my Graphic 45 papers, I came up with the idea of making a mini album similar to a trunk that opened up like a book with fold out pages.  I wanted it small—about the size of two tin Altoid breath mint boxes put together  only made out of chipboard.  I picked the beautiful Once Upon a Springtime collection and began to fussy cut out all the wonderful elements.  And that’s how this project evolved into an album with photos of me from different times of my life.  You will see me as a baby, a child, a young adult in my twenties, and now. I so love how this turned out and based it around the phrase found in the collection, 'Life itself is the most wonderful FAIRY TALE.'

Tip: An easy way to create a strong closure for a mini trunk or box type project is to use a metal key hole, brads, large magnetic snaps and a bit of black cardstock.  Cover the back of the key hole with the black cardstock and then attach the key hole with a brad to the top section of your box so that the bottom of the keyhole sticks out over the bottom section of the box.  On the back side of the keyhole attach a magnetic snap.  Attach the opposing magnet to the bottom section of the box so that it attaches to and is hidden by the keyhole.  Finish the bottom of the keyhole where a brad would go with just the head of the brad and some Glossy Accents glue.  Do not cover the magnets with paper.  You will want the magnets to be free to catch when closing and to slide apart when opening the box."
