Create Beauty with Portrait of a Lady

Olga sentimental canvas portrait of a lady (1)

Another week of beautiful projects has flown by! And we have been so inspired. Spring is here in the Northern Hemisphere, and we are feeling excited about the change of seasons! Today, we have gorgeous pastel perfect projects using Portrait of a Lady! Olga Heldwein and Alexandra Morein share stunning projects that you will absolutely adore. Let's see Olga's stunning canvas:

Olga sentimental canvas portrait of a lady (1)

"For this piece I use chipboard and I cut out part of canvas so I get transparency in background, This bring some extra dimmention to my work. Between layers of my main composition element I put double layer of foam squares this way I could slide some chiboards. I worked mostly on portrait of a Dady collection and I add few elements from Lady's Diary collection that I had alredy cut out.

In my spare time I often cut out elements from papers scraps it makes my crafting easier and faster. I storage them with collection that they belong in small plastic bag . All collections I arrange by colors so all similar colored scraps are right next to each other." ~Olga

"Sometimes an idea for a project doesn’t want to shape in our head, and sometimes the mojo visits and only after looking at ONE something, we get the full and immediate idea of  how we want our project to be. This is what happened to me, once I saw a drawer pull.

It did not come with the smaller screws, so I couldn’t securely attach it to the cover of a box or an album, unless I decided to glue it down.

That’s why I thought of using the long screws of the pull for holding the album’s pages and be a base of the binding. A little strap on the side to hold the album closed and a fantastic paper by Graphic 45 finished everything off. I hope you like the result." ~Alexandra

"Love Tags because they are perfect to make a gift, a special complement for packaging and they can even substitute a card.  I also love to hang them as a wall deco.  This time I wanted to make a special box for them. I used DIY Craft paper to cover a box and beautiful Nature Sketchbook Collection to make the tags." ~Marina BlauKitchen

Now, Kathy shares a Mixed Media Steampunk masterpiece! What a gorgeous project:

Mixed Media Steampunk Tag Album Tutorial Steampunk Debutante by Kathy Clement Product by Graphic 45 Photo 35

"Three of my favorite words in the English language are Imagine, Inspire and Create.  When Graphic 45 released their awesome Staples Square Tags with those very words laser cut into them, I was hooked. I decided to treat these tags to a day at the mixed media craft spa.  My imagination and creativity took over and before I knew it, the tag project turned into a mini album filled with Steampunk images, colors and whimsy.

Paint, stencils, crackle paste, chipboard and embossing powders added all kinds of texture and steampunk vibe to this project.  The tags function as the pages, and although there are only 3 tags, I added loads of fold outs, pockets and surprises to make for a really chunky, interactive album.

The Steampunk Debutante Deluxe Collector’s Edition filled me with inspiration, and I hope you’ll enjoy viewing this mixed media album as much as I enjoyed the process of creating it." ~Kathy

Kathy's Video Tour

Tip: DIY papers are fabulous for mini album covers because you don’t have to piece papers together.  To strengthen the area around the spine, I used iron on interfacing on the inside of the album cover where stress tears might occur in the wake of frequent use.  The interfacing layer is covered by designer paper, so no one knows it is there except you.  But the spine is protected, and that ‘s a good thing!

Tip: To create the dimensional wings on the album cover, I fussy cut around the wing area, leaving the background intact.  Then I lifted the wings, shaped them with my fingers and glued just the wingtips to the album cover.

Mixed Media Steampunk Tag Album Tutorial Steampunk Debutante by Kathy Clement Product by Graphic 45 Photo 33

Tip: I covered everything on the cover with matte decoupage medium to strengthen and protect.  While the wings were damp, I sprinkled them with a little glitter.  The medium dries clear and holds the glitter in place.

Tip: Working with Mixed Media means you have to be patient.  Paints, texture pastes and other mediums take considerable dry time.  Build your cover, fussy cut paper images, create pockets and mini tags in between doing your “wet work.”

Mixed Media Steampunk Tag Album Tutorial Steampunk Debutante by Kathy Clement Product by Graphic 45 Photo 4

Tip: I used altered chipboard pieces to serve fun, funky pockets.  Simply glue down the bottom edge, then tuck ATC tags between the chipboard and paper.  It’s unexpected, and adds to the whimsy of the finished product.

Tip: Use flowers to add texture, color and dimension.  I kept all my flowers in the same general color family to unite the design.

Our Design Team Shares their Graphic 45 #SplashofColor

Layout Enchanted Forest by Elena Olinevich product by Graphic45 photo6a

We love seeing your #SplashofColor Challenge entries! (Have you entered to win $100 of Graphic 45 goodies? No? What are you waiting for? Find out how here!) Today, our Design Team members show incredible Mixed Media ideas to jumpstart your inspiration. Watercolor, canvases, beauty - it's all here on the blog for you today! See Elena Olinevich and Einat Kessler make incredible projects! First, Elena shares a jaw-dropping'y stunning layout:

Layout Enchanted Forest by Elena Olinevich product by Graphic45 photo6a

"My daughter didn’t like to read fairy tales when she was a little girl. Now she decides what book to read, however she still doesn’t like everything about the princesses.

So I had an idea how to create something with her photo using the Enchanted Forest collection. It has so many fairy heroes and the colors of it is a kind of miracle. And I decided to draw an enchanted castle using the watercolors , to make it more translucent.

I filmed the process of my watercoloring, but I need to say that I am not a professional one, it’s just my attempt to sketch something.

What I would suggest you is to start drawing with watercolors, it’s always easy to change something, if you think you are wrong by adding more water or making the background more blur. Everything you need is only your courage and inspiration." ~Elena

Elena's Video Tutorial

Tip: while mixing the color, to avoid creating a mess just pay attention to the colors of the papers or the embellishments you are using. They will determine your choice. Actually you don’t need to mix all the shades of them, but start with 2-3 of them.

Damp the background first with the water. It helps the watercolors not to be absorbed into the paper so fast, and you still have the time to direct them and to mix, and even to remove with the wipe or a dry brush.

I also added the flowers . I wanted to create a spring feeling, as the photo I used was taken during last spring. That’s why mostly all of my flowers are light pink or light yellow. They added the air to the finished composition.

Mixed media Canvas Staples by Einat Kessler product by Graphic 45 photo 3

"Mixed media is one of my favorite ways of creating. It’s very forgiving and there is no need for accuracy or fussy cutting. You just need to build layers of color, texture and add a focal point. This project was so much fun to create! I hope you’ll give it a try…" ~Einat

Tip #1: Don’t be afraid to use your fingers! Sometimes it’s much better to feel your project and add the paint or any other medium with your fingers. It’ll give you much more control than a brush.

Tip #2: Use little items to add texture like 3D balls, strings, sandy modeling paste with a stencil or even beads.

Create with Vintage Hollywood!

Passport Mini Album Vintage Hollywood Tutorial by Sandy Trefger Product by Graphic 45 Photo 001

We love the striking Vintage Hollywood! The rich colors and vintage imagery make this collection pop! And our designers are creating amazing projects with this new collection. Today, Sandy Trefger shares a great album with us, and Katelyn Grosart shows how to brighten your home with a great altered frame! Let's see these great projects:

Passport Mini Album Vintage Hollywood Tutorial by Sandy Trefger Product by Graphic 45 Photo 001

"March is National Craft Month and I’ve created this little mini Passport album to share my favorite crafting technique.  I love to create projects using only one or two sheets of 12x12 cardstock as the basis and then add gorgeous Graphic 45 papers and other embellishments to decorate and finish it off.  This little album is only 4.5” x 5.5” in size with a ½” spine but it has lots of room for photos and journaling notes when it is folded out.  Your trimmer, score-board and scissors plus adhesives are all you really need to create this fun mini album. Of course, you want beautiful papers and embellishments too.  I’ve written up a Snapguide tutorial to show you how easy it is to create this project using my favorite crafting technique of measuring, cutting and scoring to make an album. Happy Crafting!" ~ Sandy

Passport Mini Album Vintage Hollywood Tutorial by Sandy Trefger Product by Graphic 45 Photo 001

Tip: When designing a mini album that will be made out of a single sheet of 12x12 cardstock, keep the height of your album at 6” or less.  This way you can cut two 12” long sections out of one 12x12 sheet that you will then score into sections to create the pages and cover.  Score the sections so they will be the same width and will fold in together easily.  If you have an odd size section leftover on the end, you can glue it to another full section.  Check out my Snapguide tutorial for a step by step on how to create a mini album out of cardstock.
