Superb Ideas with Secret Garden
"While I’m waiting for spring to come, I’ve made myself tiny and romantic shadow box using Secret Garden collection and Tea Time collection." ~Aneta
"The Secret Garden was one of my favorite childhood books. I loved reading how Mary and Dickon worked together to transform a neglected and overgrown walled garden into a magical paradise. The Graphic 45 Deluxe Collector’s Edition captures all the magic and delight of the book. The colors and images speak of springtime and beauty. They are the perfect way to add life and color to wintertime crafting.
I chose to alter this book box to honor my childhood fondness for the story. Since I only had a kraft book box on hand, I painted all the edge with cream chalk paint and then covered the box with papers from the collection.
To capture the magic of the story and these papers, I made a shaker front for the box. I have real lavender blossoms, sequins, glitter and small bits and pieces from the chipboard punch outs inside the shaker top. I chose the image because it reminded me of my mom and her always positive take on life. I hope you’ll enjoy the video tour of the project, and perhaps find inspiration to create your own magical secret garden." ~Kathy
Tip: If you don’t have an Ivory Book Box (I didn’t) paint the edges of a kraft box with ivory chalk paint. Chalk paint creates a lovely shabby chic finish.
Tip: Shake things up! Create a shaker top for your book box by layering clear foam tape and and a panel of clear acetate over the top of your paper design. Fill with real lavender blossoms, sequins, seed beads, small chipboard pieces and glitter.
Tip: Create a pocket on the inside flap of your book box and then fill it with a pretty card. I’ve created a Snapguide tutorial to show you how I made the quick and easy rose card.that is tucked into my pocket.
Tip: Paint the edges of kraft tags with paint and then sand and stamp to achieve a shabby chic finish.
Tip: Metal staples can be altered easily with paint! I added a base coat of ivory chalk paint to mine, then when the paint was dry, I tapped the raised areas with Tattered Rose Distress Paint.
Tip: Tie lots of different types of ivory ribbon and trim onto your binding ring to add great texture and a shabby chic finish to your tag album.
Tip: Use scraps of paper and cardstock to create fun folios within your tag album. I’ve created a Snapguide tutorial to show you how.
