Upcycle Week: Pam's Embroidery Hoop & Marina's Book Box

Nature Sketchbook Upcycled Book Box & Butterfly Jar Graphic 45 Marina Blaukitchen

Hello, G45ers!

Thanks for joining us as we continue to celebrate the creative repurposing of found items during our Graphic 45 Upcycle Week. Today, we are so happy to feature projects from design team members, Pam Bray and Marina Blaukitchen. Both incorporate Graphic 45 Nature Sketchbook, a collection that lends itself perfectly to Spring and the sense renewal it can bring. First up, we have a lovely wall decoration featuring an embroidering hoop that Pam rescued during one of her regular treasure hunts at local yard sales and flea markets. After that, Marina joins us with a tutorial that incorporates a book box and a mason jar to create a gorgeous and unique display piece that is perfect for storing those little odds and ends crafters always end up with. We hope these projects inspire you to create your own by using similar or totally different found items. Remember to share them with the #UpcycleG45 hashtag, and please share your own upcycling ideas in the comments below. Keep scrolling and brace yourself for inspiration from two naturally exquisite projects along with valuable tips from these talented women.

“I love going junking, going to yard sales, flea markets…you name it I love searching for unique and interesting pieces that I can upcycle! Last summer I found a box of unique embroidery hoops. When we were asked to upcycle a project this month, I grabbed one of the hoops along with Graphic 45 Nature Sketchbook Collection to create a unique wall piece. I hope that as we are entering Spring/Summer, you make sure to grab some fun items that you can use your Graphic 45 papers on too.” ~Pam Bray

Tips:

  1. Save the packaging from your products to upcycle.
  2. Save the foam board packaging; these are fabulous to emboss or glitter the heads of brads to make them unique.
  3. Save the negative packaging from your packaging; you will be able to trace around the image to create matching pieces to go with each collection.
  4. Wrap washi tape around frames, hoops or other narrow wood pieces to create interest.
  5. Adding small chipboard pieces to top of pattern paper prior to adding them to your projects will give added depth.
  6. Add lace to insides of frames, hoops or other narrow wood pieces to create interest.

"Giving a new life to a book-box and to a jar-I used the fabulous Nature Sketchbook Collection to celebrate Spring. I made some compartments into the box to store little metal pieces and staples. Then I decorated the cover and the spine. I also upcycled a glass jar that incorporates a light that is recharged with the sun and put in some moss and fussy cut some figures." ~Marina Blaukitchen

Tips:

Butterflies seem to fly when you swing the jar thanks to small acetate strips. Cut some acetate stripes, fold one end and glue it on a base, then glue a butterfly on the other end.

I have loved all the projects this week reusing "rubbish" - I shall really be looking at what I was thinking of throwing away from now on. Many thanks.

Great projects this week! Whoppee! Sneak peaks are coming...love that you are bringing back French Country!!

Both projects are so gorgeous!!

Beautiful creations that show that one man's trash truly is a Crafter's treasure! I am working on a pair of old jeans turned into a beautiful tote bag! I am loving how it is turning out so far but have a ways to go before it is finished, TFS!

Looking forward to working with French Country, a favorite paper collection from the past. Love all the sunflowers and roosters! Can't wait to see this newest collection, Master Detective. Onward!

More beautiful projects today! I have thoroughly enjoyed all of this week's upcycled projects and tips. Thank you Graphic 45! ❤️

French Country is one of my all time favorite G45 collections. I have not see Master Detective yet, so I'm off to do some research.

More outstanding collections!! I'd go with Master Detective as my fave!! I need that lounging skeleton!! 😊

WOW what beautiful projects the jar looks simply enchanting. Your time to flourish is so stunning...I hard a hard time cutting into it.But yes I made my first graphic 45 project yesterday!!!

I love French Country. Those flowers always catch my eye. But, if I couldn't have that, I'd gladly find a use for Master Detective. All of the G45 papers are fabulous!

I'll go with Master Dectective as I'm a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes. Can't wait to see the new collections soon.

Oh! I love the French Country side so this colletion of papper must bee just as lovely❣

Oh my love both Pam and Marina's upcycles... that jar ROCKS ... hum I may have to get more Sketchbook !! I feel a scraplift coming on , IJS ...

Love the recycled book. Great was to use something we would just discard. Thanks for the inspiration.

More beautiful upcycled projects! Perfect for Earth Day! I am inspired to use the hoop as a "wreath" for spring.

Love the peek of Master Detective! A very useful collection for this household.

I love the French Country collection. Brings to mind fields of lavender and vivid colors. So excited to see the whole collection again. Great projects again!

Wonderful ideas! I love the mason jar & the clever way to make it look like the butterflies are flying around in the jar. Thank you G45 & both of you ladies for sharing these projects!

Such creative ideas for up cycling with everyday items! Especially love the book box! So many layers and details. I'm so excited about the new paper lines!!!!! I can't wait to get to play with the Master Detective paper and embellishments!! I love the rich colors and the fabulous artwork on this paper!!! Just can't wait to get my hands on it!!!!!!!!

I love many G45 collections, but French Country is my all time favorite...the absolute best! I have some, but won't use it because if I do, I won't have anymore. Crazy right? I love, love, love French Country! Thank you SO much for bringing it back!

Enjoying the up-cycling. Thinking the Master Detective would be my choice if I should win. Hadn't seen either one of these new papers, but looks interesting.
