Upcycle Week: Pam's Embroidery Hoop & Marina's Book Box
Thanks for joining us as we continue to celebrate the creative repurposing of found items during our Graphic 45 Upcycle Week. Today, we are so happy to feature projects from design team members, Pam Bray and Marina Blaukitchen. Both incorporate Graphic 45 Nature Sketchbook, a collection that lends itself perfectly to Spring and the sense renewal it can bring. First up, we have a lovely wall decoration featuring an embroidering hoop that Pam rescued during one of her regular treasure hunts at local yard sales and flea markets. After that, Marina joins us with a tutorial that incorporates a book box and a mason jar to create a gorgeous and unique display piece that is perfect for storing those little odds and ends crafters always end up with. We hope these projects inspire you to create your own by using similar or totally different found items. Remember to share them with the #UpcycleG45 hashtag, and please share your own upcycling ideas in the comments below. Keep scrolling and brace yourself for inspiration from two naturally exquisite projects along with valuable tips from these talented women.
Graphic 45 Nature Sketchbook Upcycled Embroidery Hoop by Pam Bray
“I love going junking, going to yard sales, flea markets…you name it I love searching for unique and interesting pieces that I can upcycle! Last summer I found a box of unique embroidery hoops. When we were asked to upcycle a project this month, I grabbed one of the hoops along with Graphic 45 Nature Sketchbook Collection to create a unique wall piece. I hope that as we are entering Spring/Summer, you make sure to grab some fun items that you can use your Graphic 45 papers on too.” ~Pam Bray
- Save the packaging from your products to upcycle.
- Save the foam board packaging; these are fabulous to emboss or glitter the heads of brads to make them unique.
- Save the negative packaging from your packaging; you will be able to trace around the image to create matching pieces to go with each collection.
- Wrap washi tape around frames, hoops or other narrow wood pieces to create interest.
- Adding small chipboard pieces to top of pattern paper prior to adding them to your projects will give added depth.
- Add lace to insides of frames, hoops or other narrow wood pieces to create interest.

Upcycle Book Box Nature Sketchbook Tutorial by Marina Blaukitchen
"Giving a new life to a book-box and to a jar-I used the fabulous Nature Sketchbook Collection to celebrate Spring. I made some compartments into the box to store little metal pieces and staples. Then I decorated the cover and the spine. I also upcycled a glass jar that incorporates a light that is recharged with the sun and put in some moss and fussy cut some figures." ~Marina Blaukitchen
Butterflies seem to fly when you swing the jar thanks to small acetate strips. Cut some acetate stripes, fold one end and glue it on a base, then glue a butterfly on the other end.
