We LOVE butterflies here at Graphic 45, so of course we are in love with this gorgeous layout from Sandy using Olde Curiosity Shoppe!

Butterfly Layout Olde Curiosity Shoppe by Sandy Trefger Product by Graphic 45 Photo 001

"The beautiful butterfly paper in the Graphic 45 Olde Curiosity Shoppe Deluxe Collectors’ Edition inspired me to create this 12x12 layout page with a photo of my daughter and her husband.  One spring, they hired a photographer friend to take their photos around favorite places in Fort Worth, Texas.  I’ve always loved this photo.  This was a quick and easy layout—60 minutes or less as you only have to mat the photo with some solid cardstock and the stripe paper from the Graphic 45 collection and add it to the beautiful butterfly print.  I then added some lovely flowers, cut outs from the papers and the metal label holder." ~Sandy

Tip: When adding some metal elements to your layout pages, you may find that parts stick up too far for a layout such as this Graphic 45 Ornate Metal Label Holder.  However, it is very easy to gently flatten down the piece that sticks up to make it perfect for your page.  You can also change out the brads that come with the label holder and use the decorative stamped brads from Graphic 45 by cutting off one prong, fastening the remaining brad down on the back and cutting off the excess length of the prong.  You then simply use a strong glue to attach the entire piece to your layout.

Joanne uses white space and color so dynamically. This layout is absolutely incredible!

Watercolour-Layout -Communique -JoanneBain -product-by-Graphic-45 -Photo-1

"I love a lot of white space on my layouts so it draws the eye straight to the main cluster focusing on my photos. To create my main cluster I fussy cut a lot of pens from the Pen In Hand patterned paper and then just started layering them until I was happy. The background of the cluster was created with watercolour paints and a text stencil. I chose to use the Communique collection because a lot of the papers in the collection are neutral colour tones making it easy to mix with other colours." ~Joanne

Now, Maggi gets us ready for the Masquerade with this magical mask!

Mask Midnight Masquerade Maggi Harding Graphic 45 (1)

"What better use for the bold new Midnight Masquerade collection than a Mardi Gras mask that I got in Louisiana a couple years ago?   I started with a 12 x 12 canvas and, using the reverse side, I covered it all with design paper.  That made a nice frame for my mask.

To make the mask, I tore up little pieces of paper and applied using matte medium.  This was not difficult, but it does take some time and patience!  After the mask dried I diecut some flourishes that I thought would add color and design to the mask, again using matte medium as my glue.  After the mask dried overnight, I added rhinestones and Stickles  to glam it up!" ~Maggi

Mask Midnight Masquerade Maggi Harding Graphic 45 (1)

Tip: Because Graphic 45's paper is such a nice weight, you need to use small paper pieces, when covering the mask, in order to get the paper to mold around the curves of the mask.

Mask Midnight Masquerade Maggi Harding Graphic 45 (1)

Tip: I didn't like the stark white paper tear lines showing on my mask. There are two ways to deal with that.  1) You could ink the paper pieces before applying but that took more time than I had to give, so, I wnet with option 2) I inked over the mask after the matte medium had dried.

"Midnight Masquerade is such a fun collection with its bold colors, it's perfect for a party!  I made a fun tag using one of the cut-aparts in the center and beaded trim at the bottom.  I added a fleur de lis (perfect for anything Mardi Gras!) border punch on either side of the cut-apart.  To further the "midnight" theme, I tied on a Staples clock key." ~Maggi

St. Patrick's Day Treats with Graphic 45

Luck of the Irish Matchbox and Leprechaun Hat, Time to Flourish, Tutorial by Sandy Trefger, Product by Graphic 45, Photo 011

It's March which means we're getting ready for St. Patrick's Day! You will love the great ideas full of green from Sandy Trefger and Kathy Clement! Take a look at these fun ideas this bright Monday:

Luck of the Irish Matchbox and Leprechaun Hat, Time to Flourish, Tutorial by Sandy Trefger, Product by Graphic 45, Photo 001

"There’s something whimsical and magical about St. Patrick’s Day.  Maybe it’s the beginnings of spring or the thought of little Leprechaun’s and their gold or the color green.   For this project, I was inspired to design with the smallest Graphic 45 Matchbox---the ATC one and the March papers of the Deluxe Collector’s Edition of Time to Flourish.  The wonderful images and greens of this paper led me to create this Luck of the Iris Matchbox. But that wasn’t all!  I was also inspired to use the scraps to create a tiny Leprechaun hat in hopes that one will stop by on March 17th! Happy Crafting!" ~Sandy

Tip: When creating a project of a predominant color such as green (with a bit of purple), look to other collections to supplement your papers especially when working with a limited number  of the design such as the months in the Time to Flourish collection.  Also, hold on to all your scraps and use those to piece together designs and create embellishments for your project or even go out on a limb and create a bonus project like a little hat that compliments your main piece.

St. Patrick's Day Tag Treat Holders, by Kathy Clement, Product by Graphic 45, Photo 1

"The Top ‘o the Mornin’ to you and Happy St. Patrick’s Day!  Having an Irish heritage, our family loves to celebrate this fun holiday by wearing green and enjoying special treats like Irish Soda Bread, fish and chips...and chocolate!

These quick and easy treat holders are made with Staples Long Ivory tags.  The pretty shaped edge makes them extra special.  I thought it would be fun to pull out all three of the Graphic 45 “calendar” collections, and decorate each treat holder with the March papers from A Place in Time, Children’s Hour or Time to Flourish.  I die cut a little gift card holder from matching papers and then filled it with yummy chocolate.

You’ll be everyone’s favorite leprechaun when you tuck one of these pretty treats into a lunchbox, on the breakfast table,  or co-worker’s desk!" ~Kathy

Follow these easy steps to turn a long Staples Tag into a treat holder:

  1. Place a long Staples Tag (I used Ivory) on your scoring tool so that the long side is against the rail and the bracketed edge is on your right.
  2. Starting at the left hand side, score the tag at 3.5" and again at 4".
  3. Gently fold the tag, working slowly so that you don't crack the heavy cardstock.  You might need to very lightly moisten the area along the crease with a baby wipe or damp paper towel.
  4. Burnish with a bone folder to set the crease. Now you have a little “book” that you can decorate and fill with a chocolate treat.
  5. Create layers and dimension by mounting your focal image on foam dimensionals or waste chipboard.  Tuck little tags or postage stamps behind the main image before you glue it in place.
  6. Tie pretty ribbon through the grommet end of the tag.  Then add chipboard tags, small charms and/or flowers.
  7. Die cut a gift card holder from matching papers.  If you don’t have a die, you can always score a Staples ATC tag the same way you scored the long tag. It makes a great pocket for holding tags and chocolate treats.
  8. Graphic 45 wide washi tape makes quick work of covering the spine of these treat holders, and it will also cover up any small cracks that might occur as a result of folding the tags.
