“One of my favorite techniques is fussy cutting. I love how easy it is to incorporate that technique with each of the Graphic 45 Collections. Fussy cutting beautiful paper not only gives your projects fabulous dimension, but also creates unique embellishments that are perfect for each project. The only thing you need is a nice sharp pair of scissors and some beautiful paper.” ~Pam Bray

Tags can be a fun addition or a simplified version of a card for crafters on the go. Try using our die-cut tags to get you started.

Tips:

  1. Using small sharp scissors is the best form for fussy cutting.
  2. Always move and turn the paper to glide into the blades of the scissors; don’t use a cutting motion.
  3. Before cutting any of the images or motifs from the paper, trim around the image first to remove excess paper.
  4. I like to have two of the same sheet of paper so I can cut the whole image from one piece and smaller parts from the second piece to layer together with pop dots.

Unique Papercrafting (1)

Hello G45ers!

"My two favorite crafting techniques are fussy cutting and layering and I have combined a little of both in this shadow box.

It is very relaxing for me to fussy cut, I can spend hours and hours doing it! Then I love to play with the little pieces and try to create a scene with dimension and depth.

Shadow boxes are ideal to try these techniques, they give a proper and delimited space to create different compositions, and they are more versatile than you might think. This is an example of that using a shadow box to decorate an album cover. " ~ Marina BlauKitchen

Tips:

  • Use the scissors you feel most comfortable with. Fussy cut should be a pleasure, not a martyr! Try different scissors until you find “the ones made for you”.
  • Cut apart the piece you want to fussy cut, then try to move the paper instead the scissors while cutting.
  • I recommend using a precision cutter(x-acto knife) to cut small spaces inside the piece you are cutting.
  • Layering is a very interesting and entertaining technique. Try more than one possibility before making a final decision for your design.
  • Add cardstock or cardboard little pieces to raise the figures and make them stand out from the other figures and from the background.

Make everyday tasks like taking notes just that much brighter by creating this Nature Sketchbook notepad or make a few of these to give as gifts.  Kathy also shares four pro-tips that can be used on different types of projects time and time again.  Let's get started.

Botanical Butterfly Notepad Tutorial Nature Sketchbook by Kathy Clement Product by Graphic 45 Photo 8

"We all love Graphic 45 Metal Staples, don’t we?  Even the packaging is gorgeous!  Those sturdy chipboard tags with the graceful shaped edges and vintage style grommets are too pretty to toss in the recycle bin!  Why not upcycle them into a stylish and practical notepad instead?

That’s exactly what I did and I love the fact that not only is this Nature Sketchbook Beautiful Botanical notepad attractive, it is also sturdy.  I can find my notepad on my desk because of the bright colors that Nature Sketchbook lends.  As an added bonus, the design means that the notepad can be refilled with a new sticky note pad once the current one is used up.

With Mother’s Day coming up, this simple project would make a wonderful gift for Mom!  Make several to keep on hand for last minute birthday gifts, get well gifts, hostess gifts or any other special occasion." ~Kathy Clement

Tips:

  1. Don’t worry about torn edges on your packaging.  Just paint the edges with black chalk paint to cover them, and you’re good to go!
  2. Run ribbon through the grommet and tie into a bow for a clever and attractive closure.
  3. Create a hinge for your ATC Policy Envelope before gluing it down.  Now you can decorate the front and also tuck little notes or receipts inside the envelope.
  4. Shape and layer Nature Sketchbook die cut flowers to create a custom embellishment for your notepad.

One of my favorites techniques is the use of the Mod Podge to make more durable projects. I love the matte finish because it doesn't change the color or texture of your paper!

Stunning Ideas with Secret Garden

  Spring-Secret garden-tutorial by Lena Astafeva-product by Graphic 45-1

We are so glad that Secret Garden is back as a Deluxe Collector's Edition! It's such a perfect Spring collection full of beautiful light and airy colors. Today, Sandy Trefger and Lena Astafeva share two fabulous ideas and tutorials with this great collection! Let's get into it:

Paper Bag Mini Album Secret Garden Tutorial by Sandy Trefger Product by Graphic 45 Photo 001

"I love to create something out of items you normally throw away.  One evening,  I was having dinner out with the family at a local restaurant.  On the table the silverware for each person was in these neat Kraft colored paper bags.  There were four of us so of course when we took our silverware out of the paper bag I grabbed them all and used them to create this adorable mini album.  The rustic look of the bags made me think of the outdoors and of springtime.  Which then made me think of Graphic 45’s Deluxe Collector’s Edition, Secret Garden!   I was excited to get started on it and more excited when it was finished.  I hope I’ve inspired you to create something beautiful out of your “trash.”  Happy Crafting!" ~Sandy

Sandy's Paper Bag Mini Album Tutorial

Tip:  To create a mini album out of paper bags, use a bone folder to get a good, crisp edge anywhere you fold the bags.  Also, trim off the ends of the bags if needed to get a more uniform size so your pages line up right.  If your bags have some printed words or advertising on them, don’t consider them unusable.  Most of it will be covered up with the pretty papers and embellishments and any that still shows just adds to the character of the album.

Hat box Portrait of a Lady tutorial Maggi Harding Graphic 45 (1)

"It's no secret that I love to make hats; you've probably seen a few of my hats on the Graphic 45 blog in the last two years!  But I thought that my hats need to have a purpose so I designed this hat that is really a 4" cylindrical box.  The box makes a great gift - how about some pretty jewelry inside for Mom on Mother's Day?  Or some chocolates, I know that my Mom would love that!" ~Maggi

Check out How to Make a Hat Gift Box by Maggi HARDING on Snapguide.

Tip:  In my Snapguide I've given the measurements for a 4" cylindrical box, but you can easily alter this to fit any size round box.  Just cut the brim circumference about 2" wider than the box circumference.   If you're using a large box you might want the brim a little wider.

"You know, everybody has a secret and every lady has a secret! That’s the idea of my project for you! ...the outside of the box represents the body of the lady and the inside is her soul! So, with this box a lady can give herself to someone, body and soul! In the inside, as representation of the soul I’ve used a resin heart painted with rich colors as gold and black with lot of sparkles to give the idea of the 'richness' of every woman spirit.on the outside I’ve used lot of flowers, a little bottle of perfume to give the idea of the ephemeral part of every lady." ~Nico Scrap
