It is also a fabulous way to create a pretty and personalized gift for someone you love. This altered book cover by Nancy is a wonderful example of this! You can create altered art out of so many things and it is always so much fun. Just imagine what you could create! Here is a fun tip from Nancy about how she made this joyful little treasure.
"When decorating with clear acrylic, the trick is to decorate the back first and then the front. Communique paper was first adhered to the back of the front cover and then the embellishments were adhered to the front. It really gives a lot of dimension to a piece." -Nancy Wethington

At Christmas time my husband and I get on the scroll saw to make 3d ornaments to give out. I get to pick my favorite and then I pretty them up more with either paints, glitter, paper, and flowers or what i think will do the trick. Everyone who receives one ask for more. So it has become a tradition now at Christmas.

My fav gift for my mom would be a jewel box.. top it with lots of hand made paper flowers.. I would use steampunk debutante papers for the box and tropical travelogue for making the flowers.. Will add few of the butterflies from old curiosity shoppe papers.. I would love to use the metal buttons as a stand for the box and a graphic 45 metal flower with a brad as a knob.. :) That will be my idea..

Once I made a flower arrangement for my mom, and put it in a hand decorated pot. I painted it with acrylic paint. She loved it because the flowers came from my garden.

I think they are the best gifts to give because you can make them for anyone and have any kind of theme and it is something that everyone can use. The little layout box Little Darlings would be perfect as a handmade gift. Great for photos and to have a few other memories to put in. Great idea.
