Happy Monday to you all! We hope you had a great holiday weekend and got to enjoy some feasting and festivities! We are obviously huge fans of family holidays and sharing wonderful times with loved ones. And speaking of sharing, we have an incredibly fun blog and contest for today! You all know the fabulous Laura Denison from the Graphic 45 design team. Well she teamed up with another brilliant crafter, Kathryn from Life on the Scrap Beach! Together they came up with a fabulous idea for a project that's kind of an "Iron Chef" of crafting. Here, Laura Denison explains all the details!
"Kathryn Kreiger (Life on the Scrap Beach and Kathryn Scraps) and I first "met" via the internet a few months after I started paper crafting in 2009. We were both involved in Mini album swaps...though ironically we never were swap partners. Kathryn was a trailblazer in using Ustream to hold live crops and classes. I followed her lead about 5 or 6 months later and started teaching my own live Ustream classes. Today, we are two of the most watched Ustream paper crafting educators. In 2011, we teamed up for a National Scrapbook Day Ustream hop....we had so much fun! Kathryn also joined me on New Years Eve for my second annual New Year's Scrap Blast. Between us we had over 12,000 viewers over the two day extravaganza! We met in person at CHA in Anaheim in January of this year. While chatting one evening, we decided we wanted to do another collaboration, one using the exact same materials to create a project. I mentioned this at dinner with Diane, Charee, Aimee and the rest of the gang from Graphic 45. They jumped on board and provided the materials for us to create with. In the spirit of Iron Chef, we decided that we HAD to use one of the items.....the Secret Ingredient" which was chosen to be the 5x8 Kraftboard Altered Art Box." -Laura Denison
Here is my Scrap Off Project. We decided the Altered Box was our "secret ingredient" that we both had to use. Since I hadn't done much with the Curtain Call papers, I leaned it in the direction with the Olde Curiosity Shop papers and stickers adding pops of color.
Graphic 45 generously provided each of us with a Curtain Call paper pad, Olde Curiosity Shoppe paper stickers, and chip board tags, as well as the 5x8 Altered Box, and assorted other Graphic 45 staples. Here is my "entry" into the Scrap Off, a Vintage Movie Camera. The back opens up to reveal an accordion Mini Album inside.
This was a fun project to work on and we both thank the always awesome people of Graphic 45 for their support and encouragement. We had soooo much fun!
Next is the fabulous project that Kathryn created using the same materials. You may remember that we had Katheryn as our Featured Artist on our blog last year. Well she's still just as amazing and creative as ever! Kathryn used the same supplies as Laura to create these two incredible pieces: an album-in-a-box and a boxed set! Get ready to fall in love with these fabulous works of art!
Kathryn Krieger is a professional scrapbooker, mixed media paper artist and online educator. She strives to create unique works of art and practical tutorials to inspire paper crafters and memory keepers to create beautiful works of art worthy of their precious photographs and memories.
I used the 5"x8" Kraftboard Altered Art Box w/ Album to create an album in a box. I decorated this box with the "Olde Curiosity Shoppe" papers and embellishments. I really enjoyed the whimsical images and bright colors of this collection. It's perfect for creating a box of treasures!
.
To use the Curtain Call papers, I decided to make a set of three hardbound photo albums from scratch using these warm and neutral pages. The three books fit neatly into a chipboard sleeve, creating a boxed set of albums to display on a shelf. They look so polished sitting there!
We hope you all had fun today! We want to thank Laura Denison and Kathryn from Life on the Scrap Beach for their fabulous work today! This was such a great idea and we were thrilled to be a part of it! We will be bringing you lots of stunning craft inspiration all week long. We hope you'll come back and see us tomorrow for more craft bliss! Don't forget to leave us a blog or Facebook comment this week for your chance to win this week's awesome prize pack! We wish you all a magical Monday!
Happy Papercrafting!
