You know, G45ers, Steampunk Spells isn't just for Halloween. It's a bright and beautiful collection that offers endless possibilities for vibrant crafts for any occasion! Here is Susan's gorgeous handbound journal! This is such a fun creation that would also make a perfect gift! You can have such a great time mixing and matching all the gorgeous papers from Steampunk Spells with your favorite Graphic 45 Staples! Here Susan explains some helpful tips for how she created this lovely journal!
"I had a great time creating this Steampunk Spells handbound journal from scratch. The signatures are stitched onto the spine in a buttonhole bookbinding method, using two-toned twine. The Steampunk Spells patterned papers from the inside pages peek out through the buttonhole on the spine, while a Staples ornate metal key and chipboard dangle from the stitches. One of my favourite parts of the journal is the closure I created using a Staples Ornate Metal Key Hole, through which I threaded a couple of strings of suede which end in two little Staples ornate keys. These suede ties hold the journal shut and can double up as bookmarks as well." -Susan
Supplies:
Steampunk Spells Patterned Paper - Totally Wicked, Frightful Folly, Tick-Tock
Steampunk Spells Chipboard 2
Steampunk Spells Alphabet Stickers
Graphic 45 Staples - Ornate Metal Keys
Graphic 45 Staples - Ornate Metal Keyholes
Timeless Twine
This is a really fun and easy craft that you're sure to love! Here is Nichola's wonderful Steampunk Spells card and envelope made with Graphic 45 Large Tag Album Staples. This is such a sweet creation that's sure to brighten anyone's day! Create one for someone you love by following Nichola's super fun tutorial! Take it away, Nichola!
"Some kids love school... mine does not. To brighten his gloomy weekdays I sometimes put a terrible joke in his lunchbox. I’ve always just scribbled something on a post-it note but I’ve decided that this year I will pull up my fancy pants and create a proper means of delivering those bits of hilarity. So I’ve created a sturdy envelope from a Graphic 45 Staples Large Tag Album along with a little card. It might seem a little strange to make a back to school card with the Steampunk Spells collection but what 10 year old boy doesn’t think returning to the desk is dreadful and truly horrific?" -Nichola
Supplies:
Steampunk Spells:
Steampunk Spells Alphabet Stickers
Steampunk Spells 6x6 Patterns & Solids
Graphic 45 Staples: Large Tag Album
May Arts Ribbon
Button
Sandpaper
Ink pad
Tutorial:
Step 1: Using a large tag as a template cut two coordinating papers from the Steampunk Spells collection. Here I’ve used Witching Hour and Tick-Tock. Affix the papers to the front and back of the tag.
Step 2: Score the tag at 3.25” and 7”. To make folding easier do this to the front and back of the tag.
Step 3: When the tag has been folded you may find that, due to the thickness, the paper ‘cracks’ slightly. Sand these edges smooth with fine sandpaper and then ink all of the edges.
Step 4: Place ⅛” Scor Tape on the two side edges of the tag and press closed.
Step 5: Adhere a 10” length of ribbon and a button to the envelope pocket where the tag hole meets.
Step 6: Create the card by cutting a 6” x 3.25” piece of paper from the Steampunk Spells 6x6 Patterns & Solids and fold in half. Cut pieces from Frightful Folly, and Vintage Voyage and Steampunk Spells Chipboard 2.
Step 7: Adhere all of the design elements on to the front of the card and add stickers from Steampunk Spells Alphabet Stickers.
I’ve added an area inside to write a horrible joke...
That’s it! Just pop the card inside the envelope pocket...
… fold the top flap over, pull the ribbon through the hole and tie with a bow.
