And now it's time for some holiday fun with 12 Days of Christmas! We begin with this wonderfully inventive upcycled brie box that Denise has transformed into a gorgeous piece of holiday home decor! You can create so many incredible projects by upclying old boxes like this one. Get inspired by Denise's whimsical work of art! This is the perfect project for a cozy winter afternoon. Here is what Denise had to say about this splendid craft!
"Since I work at grocery store I have access to a wide array of boxes of all different types. I am always on the lookout unique and fun boxes to alter. I have made similar little ornaments with small round boxes such as the individual bries and Laughing Cow containers- but this one was big! I saw my clerk was cutting the big brie wheel into slices and I said give me that box! Originally I wanted to make the “Days” attach to the front edge like numbers on a clock- but it looked terrible! So a happy mistake led to the tail part being adorned with the 12 Days of Christmas countdown cut from the 8x8 paper pad. I embellished using Petaloo Textured Layers flowers along with some vintage millinery. I hand made the sisal tree-was going to paint it but I loved that natural look it gave. There are tons of scenes and designs you can create inside- and who doesn’t like brie?" -Denise

Here is Romy's darling gift box that's just perfect for ringing in the new year! You can give this box as a precious handmade gift. You can also use it for storing keepsakes and other fun treasures throughout the year. Romy has even included a fun and easy tutorial to show you how to create this joyful work of art! If you're looking for a last-minute idea for a handmade gift, look no further! Here Romy explains her inspiration behind this sweet creation. Take it away, Romy!
"I usually give my family members a little something after the new year has just started. Of course receiving a gift is always nice, but it’s even better when the gift is packaged in a creative way. Therefore, I made this little gift box out the small matchbook box and the Twelve Days of Christmas collection." -Romy
Supplies:
1 sheet Twelve Days of Christmas ‘Drummers Drumming’
1 sheet Twelve Days of Christmas ‘Holly and Ivy’
12 Days of Christmas 6x6 Patterns & Solids Pad
12 Days of Christmas Tags & Pockets
12 Days of Christmas Chipboard Die-Cuts 1
12 Days of Christmas Chipboard Die-Cuts 2
Staples Small Matchbook Box
Brown ink
Martha Stewart border punch
Twine
Tissue tape
Foamtape
Fineliner
Tutorial instructions:
Step 1:
Trim the ‘Drummers Drumming’ sheet at 11.5 x 5.8”. Cover the front side of the paper with double-sided tissue tape. Gently fold it around the matchbook box, so the box will be completely covered with paper.
Step 2:
The piece of paper will now be a little larger than the box itself. Cut in approximately 0.5” at each corner of the box. Cut out triangles from each flap, in the way shown on the photo. Then fold the corners and secure them on the inside of the box.
Step 3:
Cut out two rectangles from the ‘Drummers Drumming’ sheet of approximately 2.5 x 4.5” and stick them down on the inside of the matchbook box. This will also help cover up the flaps on the inside.
Step 4:
Cut out three rectangles from different papers from the 6x6 Solids & Patterns paper pad. Cut them at 4.5 x 2.5”, 4x2” and 5 x 2”. Punch with a border punch alongside the edges of one of the rectangles. Also ink the edges of the rectangles and stick them down on top of the box.
Step 5:
Either cut out a doily or use a pre-made doily and stick it down on the top of the box. Also take one die-cut tag and a smaller die-cut and a chipboard bookplate. Layer them on top of each other with foamtape. Then, cut out a dove and a holly berry from the ‘Holly and Ivy’ sheet and also attach them to the box with foamtape.
Step 6:
Use chipboard buttons from the ‘Chipboard Die-Cuts 1’ package to decorate the sides of the box.
Step 7:
Further decorate the top of the box with two chipboard circles, a chipboard tag and a piece of twine. Also write a sentiment on the bottom of the tag die-cut to finish it off.
