Luscious Layering with Romy Veul
We are so excited to welcome back Romy Veul to our team. She is such an elegant and memorable designer. Every one of her projects is a lesson in beautiful layering, composition, and use of color. She is the youngest on our team, but with such an eye for style, you would have thought she had been papercrafting for 20 years. She is a layout master, a cardmaking genius, a tag and ATC wizard, and really creates some stunning altered creations. She can do it all! Today, we will be sharing four projects. Her first project is a never before seen By the Sea layout with tutorial. What fun we will have welcoming back Romy to our team today!
Before we celebrate Romy, don't forget to take part in our blog contest! Just comment here on the blog or on our Facebook page to win. We will announce the winner tomorrow, so don't delay and take part today! Now, let's welcome the wonderful, lovely Romy!
"My name is Romy Veul and I am a 20 year old girl who lives in the Netherlands. At day I study Dutch language & linguistics at University in Amsterdam, but at night and during the weekends I'm a very passionate scrapbooker. I first discovered scrapbooking 7 years ago, when I attended a workshop during the jubilee celebrations at my high school. Creativity has always been an important part of my life, but somehow I never managed to find the perfect hobby for me. That was until I came into touch with scrapbooking. I was hooked since the very first paper that I touched and I haven't looked back ever since.
I have been a proud design team member for Graphic 45 during the past year and have loved every minute of being part of this amazing family. Graphic 45 has become a manufacturer at my heart and I truly adore working with their products. The variety of styles, the intricate patterns, the lovely colour schemes...I love it all! I am truly proud and honoured to get to design for this amazing company for another year."
We are just in love with this layout by Romy using By the Sea. A true testament to her skill in layering and incredibly rich projects. Follow her step-by-step tutorial to make your own!
"If you have photos from a day to the beach or a walk at sunset, By The Sea is the perfect collection to document your memories. I have had this photo of a sea gull standing by the sea for a while. It’s a very dear photo to me, as it was taken during one of my first dates with my boyfriend when we were watching the sunset together. As soon as I saw the By The Sea collection I knew it was the right collection to finally scrap this photo. I did lots of paper layering, but limited my amount of details to keep the photo the main focus of attention on my lay-out. "
Step 1:
Take the ‘Set Sail’ paper as the base for your lay-out. Then trim the ‘Splash’ paper at 11.5 x 11.5”. Also cut out a square of 11 x 11” from the backside of the ‘Set Sail’ paper. Attach the papers on top of each other to create the background for your lay-out.
Step 2:
Cut the ‘Mother Goose’ paper at 10.3 x 10.3“ and punch alongside the edges. Also cut out a rectangle of 9.3 x 7“ from the ‘Gathering Shells’ paper and one of 6.7 x 5“ from the ‘Beachcomber’ paper. Punch alongside the edges of the latter rectangles. Glue both rectangles down on top of the lay-out.
Step 3:
Cut out three other rectangles from the ‘My Anchor’, ‘Pier 45’ and ‘Gathering Shells’ papers of respectively 6.5 x 5.8”, 8 x 6.8” and 4.5 x 6.5”. Place them on top of the other rectangles.
Step 4:
Cut out a card from the ‘Sand and Surf’ paper and stick it down on the left side of the lay-out. Also cut out two text strips from the ‘Splash’ paper. Attach them to your lay-out with foamtape.
Step 5:
Attach a doily in the center of the lay-out and stick down the photo on top of it.
Step 6:
Fussy cut the images that are shown here from the ‘By the Sea’, ‘Beachcombs’ and ‘Sand and Surf’ papers.
Step 7:
Also cut out a lighthouse from the ‘Sand and Surf’ paper. Stick it on top of the photo with tacky tape. Use the other fussy cut elements to further decorate your lay-out. Attach them with foam tape to make them stand out more.
Step 8:
Finish off the lay-out by adding some pearls and a title.

Lovely variety of creations, Romy knows how to work with color.
This week's prize would complement what I already purchased. I bought the large paper pack and other pieces, the small paper pack would add so much flexibility.
