An Interview with Jane Tregenza

1. Why do you craft?

I just love the freedom and the whole creative process, I find it very relaxing. The idea of starting with no idea of the finished project, but with a wonderful collection of graphic 45 papers and embellishments in front of me, is my idea of the perfect setting to create my projects in.

2. What do you feel is your crafting forte?

I just love everything, cards, books, off the page and layouts. I suppose books are my favourite but I really love layouts. It really depends on the collection I am working with as to what I end up making.

3. What inspires and motivates you to be creative?

Graphic 45 papers are the perfect inspiration for me. I love laying the papers out in front of me. I always have two of each print so I can see both sides – then I just start cutting. My favourite way to use it, is to mix the collections around and use some of my old favourites along with my new favourites.

4. What do you do with your projects once they're complete?

I have 7 Graphic 45 albums full of layouts and a bookcase full of my books and cards. Because I teach all over Australia I am always packing my books and layouts up to go to shows and things. So most of the time they are on display in my store or in boxes ready for the next display.

5. What is the funniest craft disaster you've ever had?

I don’t really have a funniest craft disaster. I find that most of my disasters end up becoming my favourite projects. As I tell everyone I teach, there are no mistakes in scrapbooking only more opportunities to create something better.

Wow, we would love to see your 7 Graphic 45 albums - awesome! Thanks for talking with us, Jane!

Now, Jane shares the most fabulous album using Mother Goose!

"I really love this collection – all the images are perfect for cutting out. Once I saw the collection I knew I wanted to do a book. But I didn’t want to just do a book, I wanted to do a pop out or an interactive book. Each page has a pocket that contains a letter, postcard and little bits and pieces relating to each nursery rhyme in it.

I always make my books from scratch. I use cardstock for the foundation of each page, then I add print paper to each black foundation page. I love using Graphic 45’s striped print papers for making frames around my pages. It’s such a lovely technique for any page; it also helps to hide my background print paper sometimes when it isn’t on straight. I use this technique for frames on layouts, books and cards. I have done a snapguide on making a frame if any of you want to have a go. At the end of the snapguide I have included some examples of frames on my work.

Some of the interactive features in my book include a tab attached to Humpty Dumpty that makes him slide down the wall. The letter in the pocket on Humpty Dumpty’s Page is a letter from Nurse Rea Rhyme telling him how to treat his broken head. It includes an x-ray of his cracked egg. There is also a postcard telling him to get better from all the kings men.

The Twinkle Twinkle Little Star page has a tab so the cow jumps over the moon. In the pocket there is a letter from the King’s astronomer confirming the naming of the star as “Twinkle” and a star chart showing where it is in the constellation. There is also a packet with a chipboard star and some star dust.

The Mary Mary quite contrary page has a garden that pops up. In the pocket is a letter from Mrs Tiggy Winkle complaining about the mud on Mary’s cloths. There is also a packet of seeds for “Pretty Maids” and a vintage postcard of a girl with a bunch of flowers.

In the pocket for the Mary Had a Little Lamb page there is a letter from the teacher informing Mary that her lamb can’t attend school again. There is a map of nursery rhyme land and a packet with some of Mary’s lamb’s wool.

The last page of the book has pockets for each of the Nursery Rhymes. There is a little booklet with the history of each Nursery Rhyme in each pocket.

I had great fun creating this book and writing the letters. I am hoping that any child receiving a book like this, will just love all the little bits and pieces that I have included to make it more interesting."

Hello!

The Mother Goose album is the most wonderful project I have ever seen! I am so in love with this collection and this is so wonderful I can't stand it!

Hugs,

Barbara Diane

Wish my disasters became an opportunity, lol... Having 2 of every sheet is in a perfect world, not always affordable tho. That's why most of my G45 is hoarded away. Cute project, particularly note to school. Tfs : )

Lovely album! I am loving getting to know the dt members!! They are all so inspirational! TFS!

Wauuuuuw would love to win...

I love Graphic 45 paper lines. I use them in so many of my albums. This would be wonderful to use for my baby niece's welcome album. She was born over 2 months premature and weighed a whopping 3.5 pounds at birth. She's fought so hard and I want this album to be a very special one.

I love Graphic45. The designers are out of this world.

What a great album. Can't wait to make one for myself. Graphic 45 papers are my favorite collections. When you see a project made in another brand of paper and the same project made with graphic45, there is just no comparison. The graphic45 papers make your project stand out.

What an awesome giveaway!!

Jane did an awesome job using this paper. I hate fussy cutting and wish that you would also sell the characters, flowers already cut out of the paper (die cuts). It would save a lot of time and effort. Thanks.
