Maggi headshot

"Hi, I am Maggi Harding, and I am so thrilled to be serving my 2nd year with Graphic 45.  The last year was an incredible experience and I am betting this year is even better!

I live in eastern North Carolina, but I claim the world as home.  I have spent most of my life wandering, as a child with my parents because my Dad was in the Army, and, as an adult, because it is in my blood.

My husband and I share our home with our two standard poodles, Nika and Tisha.  We love to travel and do so mostly in our RV so that our sweet furbabies can be with us.   We have been from Key West, Florida to Fairbanks, Alaska and from the Pacific shores of California to the Atlantic shores of North Carolina in our well travelled motorhome!

I discovered scrapbooking in 2005 when I decided to make scrapbooks for my two best friends from college.  It quickly became my passion and something that I spend hours doing and never grow tired of my efforts.

I really can't pinpoint my style as I do a little bit of everything, but two things I really love, are vintage styling and bright bold colors.  I love the rich saturated colors and bold patterns that characterize Graphic 45 papers.  They are an artistic adventure for me; I always ask myself, what can I create, how can I make this piece of paper come to life?   I love the challenge of combining those beautiful patterns with my photos to create a cohesive art piece.  Scrapbooking has awakened my “inner artist” and  satisfies the creative side of my brain that was long neglected during my career as a CPA.  These days I am a happy  retired, stay at home, crazy, paper loving scrap artist!"

Let's take a look at Maggi's 3 favorite projects! You will fall in love with each and every one!

"I chose this tag as one of my favorites because I put so much love into it.  I made this tag for our poodles' veterinarian.  She takes such good care of our girls and is such a compassionate and caring person.  She has laughed at our poodles' antics and cried with me when their time has come to an end.  I like to make goodies for her and her staff at Christmas time and of course make a special tag to accompany my gift.

I layered several of the design papers from the 12 Days of Christmas collection and, to add interest and dimension, popped up some of the layers with foam tape.  I diecut a Sizzix frame from dark green cardstock and then added  embossing powder randomly on the frame to give it a snowy look. The chipboard poodle is heat embossed with Ranger Antiquities embossing enamel in Weathered White.  It leaves a rough surface after heating and so it worked perfectly to mimic a poodle's curly coat. I love the effect.  I finished it all off with a gorgeous Petaloo poinsettia vine and a festive ribbon.

"This altered tin is one of my favorite projects because it was just so much fun to make!  Ohh and what a fun time I had making a big mess.   Before I was finished everything in my studio had mist, glue, vand paint on it, including the poodles!

To make this tin, I started by painting it with black gesso, then I dribbled on some paint.  Next I applied a lot of different mists and sometimes dried between colors and sometimes not as I wanted the colors to bleed together.  Tip: I sprayed the tin with Krylon Fixative so that the colors wouldn't bleed any further when I painted on the matte medium that I used to glue down the paper strips, frame, and Mr. Bones.

The frame behind Mr. Bones, is diecut and then heavily embossed with gold and black embossing powders.  I also sprayed the center to make it a darker green.  It really was cut from Articles of Antiquity paper but that's hard to see!

I made all the flowers with the exception of a few small black roses.  I used some scraps and pages from the 6 x 6 Patterns and Solids pad.  Tip:  You can make your leaves and vines look more realistic by dabbing on some mists or water colors to give them a varied colored appearance as I have done to my vines.  I dabbed on an olive mist and then tipped the leaf ends with a dark red mist."

"I love making and altering 3D items.   Things that have a purpose really excite me, like this fun container for  Halloween treats.   This boot would easily hold a couple bags of chocolate and yum,  wouldn’t that be fun to fill and keep on your desk and maybe share with your co-workers?  You could also use it as a centerpiece for a Halloween party!

I started with a Silhouette Witch’s Boot cut file enlarged to 200%.  Then I added paper in the center such that the boot cut-outs attached to each side come together forming a boot toe.  This allowed me to add the fun lacing that really makes it look like a boot.  Now just fill it up with chocolate and you’ve got an art piece that everyone will want!"

Now, how is this great new project from Maggi. We love how she used our new Square Tag Albums!

"I am so excited and thrilled to be back for a 2nd design term with Graphic 45!!  It's kind of fun to be a "seasoned veteran"  now, as I well remember how nervous I was this time last year.  Our first assignment was to design a project that describes me as a designer and include a photo of me.  Well I pondered that for a while, and finally decided to use my DT photo as a start and make a book all about me.  We often scrap photos of everyone in our families and record their stories but we often leave ourselves out of the picture.

I used one of G45's new Staples Square Tag & Pocket Album for my mini.  These little books are so fun and have so many pages; it really takes a lot of the work out of making a mini.  I picked one of my "go-to" collections, Typography, because it really represents me as a designer.  It includes my favorite color palette, black, red, and cream,  it's a little sassy and its got so many great quotes that I really can relate to.

Tips:  When making minis, gather and print a lot of photos to use, but be sure to print them small so you can easily use them in your mini.  Use matte medium on the outside of your mini to give it a really sturdy finish that will hold up over time."
