Upcycle Week: Starring a Camera Photo Storage & Treat Tags using Vintage Hollywood
Hello G45ers!
Welcome to a week of upcycled fun! We asked our Design Team to create a project from an old unused item in their house and give it new life. Some of them selected old G45 packaging, packaging from matchbook boxes, or old home decor pieces that were in much need of a facelift. This post will feature Elena's Recycled Camera she created using a Graphic 45 Book Box and the tube from packing tape, as well as Maggi's Recycled Tags using Staples packaging. Both of these gorgeous projects have been decorated in our Vintage Hollywood collection. Be sure to join in the fun and share your projects with us on Facebook using the #UpcycleG45 hashtag to be entered to win this month's contest.
Camera Box by Elena Olinevich
"I love everything about the cinema, especially when it comes to some vintage movies. The new Vintage Hollywood collection is something that I have waited a long time for.
Several decades ago it was quite popular to collect the cards with the celebrities. Now it is a real treasure if you possess these cards. So I thought it would be great to create something to keep some vintage movie cards and I decided to make a camera box.
I used the Book Box from the Staples, but was I really need was something to create the “lens” so that my vintage camera box looked authentic and my eyes caught the spool left from the tape adhesive. It was quite large enough." ~Elena Olinevich
I filmed the process from start to finish of how to attach the spool to the book cover. Camera Box Video Tutorial by Elena Olinevich
Book Boxes come in two sizes and three colors.
This camera box can be used for any pictures or photos you may have, as an option - it is enough space inside to put mini album.
Tips:
- First, while working with circles, be accurate with all the calculations you make. It’s important to place the spool straight at the center, so you will need a ruler and to rememember some calculations needed to find the radius and diameter to cut the paper layers precisely.
- If you are going to make the cover for you “lens,” score the paper first. It is a circle shape and even moving a bit will offset the paper.
- I also added the matchbox as a part of the flashbox. You can even open it and put something tiny into it
I spent a lot of time searching for the belt, not a new one. I found it at the flea market, it is worn and really vintage.

Recycled Tags By Maggi Harding
I'm upcycling today in honor of Earth Day! I've made two great shaker tags from Graphic 45's Washi tape packaging. I'll show you how to do that in my Snapguide. The plastic packaging is great because you can actually fit some Hershey's chocolate in the shaker. Now that's my kind of shaker!!
Now, if you don't have the packaging from Graphic 45's Washi Tape, don't despair, you can still make a great shaker tag using any of the tags from our Staples metal packaging. Here's a link to a previous Snapguide where I illustrated how to make a shaker from nested dies. All you need to do is make a shaker and then glue it to your tag as I have done on the Born to be A Star tag. ~Maggi Harding
How to Make a Shaker From Recycled Packaging
Always keep the Graphic 45 packaging tags from your metal Staples purchases. They are just like the tags that are sold and recycle beautifully! Many scrapbook products are packaged so beautifully; before tossing consider how you could recycle the packaging.
