Curious about Memory Keeping? Here are two Olde Curiosity Shoppe Layout Tutorials to Help
Hello, G45ers!
It is time to jump into another craft filled week with a trip to the Olde Curiosity Shoppe, featuring two stunning layouts by design team members, Marina Blaukitchen and Lena Astafeva. Marina will put your creative gears in motion with a thoughtfully designed double page layout that also features Typography and Communique pages. Check out the included Snapguide tutorial for more! If that has not satisfied your curiosity, Lena then introduces her first ever canvas layout, an ornately designed piece that features an abundance of fussy cut oddities from this quirky collection. You can view her YouTube video for a full tutorial. We love how these two projects contrast to show how versatile a single collection can be when used by talented artists with distinct aesthetics, even while using similar techniques such as embossing. As if these projects were not enough, this week we are giving you a chance to win your very own Olde Curiosity Shoppe DCE prize pack. To enter, comment on the blog and/or Facebook today and all week. A winner will be chosen randomly and announced right here on the blog this Friday.
This week's blog prize package includes an Olde Curiosity Shoppe - Deluxe Collector's Edition, ATC Black Alpha Banner Set, 5x5 Ivory Mixed Media Box, Ornate Metal Label Holders, and Metal Brass Brads, a $60+ value!
Double Layout Olde Curiosity Shoppe Tutorial
by Marina Blaukitchen
"I love how double layout looks because they create an effect that reflects unity and continuity in the scene when you need some cohesion between the photos that you are going to use.
The main element that links these pages is the papers. The fact that the pages coordinate with each other does not mean that their design may be identical or the decorations must be the same. It is much more attractive to combine different elements because he pages will gain visual appeal. I used the same background and I've tried playing with the ornaments to unify and merge the images.
Thinking of giving importance to the essence of what I wanted to convey with my daughters photos, their creativity and their imagination, I let the butterflies fly from the left page to the one on the right where they come into contact with the gears that start the creative processes symbolized in a small key." ~Marina Blaukitchen
Tips:
- Select the same paper for the background of both pages.
- Add other papers to break the uniformity and serve as the basis for each of the photos.
- Include other techniques such as embossing or mixed media notes. I used embossing on this occasion.

I really love this collection!! The papers and embellishments make me want to run out and visit an antique store to buy some lace, buttons, ribbons, and other delicate ephemera to add to a scrapping project made withvthis collection. I really like the way Lena used the layering technique to beautify the canvas and surround the photo. Lena, you created a truely fantastic art piece!!!
